I replaced the black catridge with Office Depot made compatible catridge and it drained very quickly. Is this a known issue? Not sure where all that ink has gone; I just printed three test pages. Please help.
Compatible carts do make a lot of trouble. One point is the draining! The ink has flown into the cart assy and beyond that to the bottom of the printer. As long as you can print without problems you dont have to do anything. If the test pages wont show the correct color you have to open the printer and to clean the assy and the bottom. Do use original ink carts though these wont drain and give correct info to printer. You can very simple refill them with dye ink. Dye ink only!!!

Thank you for providing the solution. I apologize for not rating the solution sooner. I did not get a chance to replace the Black catridge until yesterday. This time I have LC41BK from Brother, but I still have the same draining problem. When I first inserted the Catridge, the printer's ink status showed full ink level for black, but did not print when I selected copy and print in black. So, I pressed the catridge a little bit into the catridge holder. That fixed the printing in black colour issue, but the ink drained in about 4 to 5 hiurs. Not sure if pressing it in could cause the draining. I am going to open up the printer and clean the assy as Mix-it-up has suggested. I will keep you guys posted. I am also considering to get rid off brother printer and go for HP or some other brand.
