This Sony camcorder uses mini-DVDs to record and there are certain restrictions when DVD is used, it is not like videotape. For a DVD-R disc, you cannot delete video once it is recorded because this type of disc is a record once only. Depending on which other disc type you use and how it was initialized, you MAY be able to delete video. For a DVD+RW disc, or a DVD-RW disc initialized in VIDEO mode, you can delete the last scene IF you have not removed the disc and not recorded any new video. For a DVD-RW disc initialized in VR mode, you can delete anytime. And here is how: Turn on camcorder and press PLAY. Select the video or still image tab that contains the data you want to delete. Touch EDIT. Touch DELETE. Select what you want deleted. The selected scene is marked with a checkmark. Press and hold the image on the LCD screen to confirm. Touch RETURN to go back to previous screen. Touch OK - YES. You cannot recover data once deleted. There is also a DELETE ALL to delete all video or images.
This message appears when mini dvd disc got some error in recording tracks, if its rewritable mini disc then format it as option is available in camera settings menu and if disc is once writable then use another disc as it can not be formatted. Caution: Format will erase/ delete all files on dvd disc and refresh the dvd disc.
If a FORMAT ERROR message is displayed,
then the inserted disc is not formatted or it is recorded in a
different format not useable by the camcorder. If using a DVD-RW or
DVD+RW, format the disc prior to use. Otherwise, use a different disc.
Disc error. Unsupported format means that ur camera does not support the format of this disc it might not support DVD-R or DVD-RW and supports the DVD+R and +RW try the other format disc and let me know if it resolved , check the manual it is stated on the box or manual which format it supports, if it does not solve ur problem try some other brand instead of MEMOREX try sony,hp,fuji, philips and see actually these sony cameras they are sometimes locked by the manufacturer to only use the original discs for monopoly sony acts like that in every product
I had the same problem, but I didn't have any valueable data on the
DVD-RW (which was a Sony brand disc, go figure...). So, I backed up
all the videos on the disc, tried to format the disc to get it ready to
be able to be used again, and got the whole "Access Error" when I was
formatting the disc. I tried both the VR and Video format options, the
Video option came back with teh "Access Error" while the VR option came
back with "Format Error". I put the disc into my DVD burner in my
computer and was going to try and format it manually. But, as the disc
popped up in My Computer and I right-clicked on the disc icon, there
were no options to format the disc, which is unusual. I tried it in a
laptop that's about a year old (versus the other computer which was
about 4 years old), and as I right-clicked on the disc, an option was
entitled "Erase this CD-RW". Obviously this was not a CD-RW, but I
tried it anyways, and bam, after about half a minute, the mini DVD-RW
was formatted! After that, I put it in the Handycam DCR DVD101 drive,
formatted it using the Video setting (my preference), and now it works.
So, moral of the story is...try and format the disc manually on a DVD
burning enabled computer. If it doesn't work, try a newer computer.
But that's all I have, hope this helps!
