SOURCE: cannot fix code 28 for network controller for dell1525 laptop

If you are getting a code 28 then you will need to download a new driver on another computer for the network card. If you have a wireless adapter that you can connect to the computer and your router has wireless capability then that could work as well but you will need to get a new driver on to that computer some how.

Finding the driver will be easy though. You can go to the computer's manufacturer website, or the website of the network card's manufacturer and search for it there. Shouldn't be too hard to find but if you can't find it let me know and I will get you a link.

SOURCE: I reinstalled XP and an error message saying

Sounds like you need to install a separate driver for your ethernet card.

You need to get a DEDICATED internet connection to fix this

Go to control panel
then got to device manager
then from the list that pops up you should see anything that Xp will not run (yellow triangle)"network adapter"
right click on that device and the general tab screen will say if it is or is not working properly
If it is NOT, click on the 3RD tab"Driver" and click on update driver-

That should get it working.

Then redo your network and internet connections.

Hope this helps.

What kind of computer do you have? The trick here is first to get the computer on the internet by finding out what kind of network card is installed on a internet connected computer do one of the following
1> If its a dell go to http://www.dell.com/support and click on download drivers enter your service tag number Download the network driver to a flash drive and install Connect to the internet and repeat the above process to install the other drivers.
Most manufacture websites will have a download page for the drivers but you can also google the make model and operating system drivers for example google acer aspire 1000 xp network driver.
if you post your make model and operating system I can help you better.

Important: Make sure you install the drivers for the correct operating system. For example, if you're using Windows 7 32-bit, install the drivers designed for that specific version of Windows. Many Code 28 errors are caused by attempting to install the wrong drivers for a device.

  4. Install the latest Windows service pack. Microsoft regularly releases service packs and other patches for their operating systems, one of which may contain a fix for the cause of the Code 28 error.

Note: I do know that certain service packs for Windows Vista and Windows 2000 have contained specific fixes for some instances of the Code 28 error in Device Manager.

  5. Replace the hardware. As a last resort, you may need to replace the hardware that has the Code 28 error.

It's also possible that the device is not compatible with this version of Windows. You can check the Windows HCL to be sure.

Note: If you still think there is still a software/operating system component to this Code 28 error, you could try a repair install of Windows. If that doesn't work, try a clean install of Windows. I don't recommend doing either of those more drastic options before you try replacing the hardware, but you may have to if you're out of other options.

Code 28 can not be install on my pc

error code 28, means a Driver Error,

the solution is to go to the device manager,

1.) start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager,
2.) locate a device with a yellow highlight
3.) right click it and select update , follow the onscreen instructions

or
reinstall the driver using the driver cd. that came with it.

if that fails you need to go to the manufactures website for that particular device , locate the driver and download it, then install it. PS if its on the mainboard you can go to the OEM system builder you have like dell or hp , if you dont have and oem system go to the mainboad manufactures web site, Biostar and MSI.

Hello, my wireless is not showing on my computer and when i go on device manager on my computer it has a question mark on ethernet controller and say erro code 28, how can i fix this?

Do your Wireless Device (PCI or USB unit) comes with an installation CD? If so, use the CD to install the software/drivers.(Instead of using the Windows wizard). Remove any previous installation before reinstalling with the CD.

Resit your device to a different USB port or PCI slot. If the drivers/software are properly installed, windows will detect and installed the device correctly.
