On some later vehicles the entire hub assembly is replaced.Ask the parts technician at your dealership whether or not this is a replaceable bearing. The new replaceable assemblies are much easier to replace than having to knock out your old races and driving in new ones. It all depends on the style of hub assembly on your vehicle.

I replaced driver side front wheel bearings, but starting to hear squeaks. Is this a lack of packing grease?

Dan, squeaking could be from improperly packed bearing or hub nut not tightened properly. Did you replace the races also.

Need to replace right front wheel bearing

Remove the wheel and tire ***'y. remove the brake caliper to get it out of your way, then take the dust cap off the rotor where you'l find a nut with acover and a cotterpin. remove the cotter pin, nut coverand loosen the nut, the rotor will come off. the outer bearing will immediately come out if ti's not buried into the race. Remove the inner bearing by knocking out the which you'll need to replace as well. actually to do the job right , replace both races, bearings and the seals. the races and bearings have to wear together and using new bearings on old races is just asking for trouble soon, as they do not wear together like they should. Pack bearings with new grease, install the new races, put some extra grease inside the rotor so the bearings and races will have plenty of lube, install the inner bearing then the seal, put the rotor on the spindle, install the outer bearing nuut, tighten the outer nut just until the rotor rotates one to two revolutions when spinning freehand andinstall the nut cover and the cotter pin, caliper wheel and tire, you're finished, good luck.

Left front hub replacement 2WD.

2WD pickups don't have hubs. They have rotors with bearings. Once you have the brake assembly supported, remove nut from spindle. Be sure not to strip the threads on the spindle. Remove the front set of bearings and pull the rotor off. Remove the rear set of bearings. Be sure to pack greases into new bearings prior to installation. Insert new rear bearing into rotor and replace onto spindle. Insert new front bearing and washer and re-install nut. Tighten to recommended torque specs, grease fittings and replace brake assembly.

I need to reploce the front left rotor on a 1996 ford econoline van. I need to know how to remove the bearings from the old one and put in the new one. Plesae help

Once you remove the center cap, remove the cotter pin, and remove the nut and washer, the outter bearing should slide right off. Remove that, and put the nut back on, then pull the rotor towards you, allowing the nut to touch the top of the inside of the rotor, until you catch the inner bearing on the nut, then give a ****, that should leave the bearing and seal left on the spindle. If not, you can use a seal remover, to get out the seal and the bearing will fall out of the rotor. Pack the new bearings and install the inner bearing, tap in the seal in the rotor, install rotor, install packed outer bearing and install.

Can i please get some info on how to replace front wheel bearings please

Hi there,

Well first of all you can please follow the below steps -
1. Jack up the car. Use jack stands if possible, or blocks if not.
2. Remove tires on the front. Remove brakes.
3. Take out the grease cap (the center).
4. Pull out Cotter Pin. Take nut out.
5. Pull Rotor out. Take grease seal off of the back of the rotor. Pull out inner and outer bearings.
6. Using hammer and punch, knock out racings from the back of the center of the rotor (very important to use new races, don't use the old ones). Clean out the center of the rotor with a clean rag.
7. Using the new bearings, replace the old ones, tapping them into place. It doesn't matter which one you install first.
8. Pack with grease when they are in place. Install new seal after the bearings are packed with grease.
9. Re-install the rotors into car; put brakes back on; replace tires..... You can please follow the below link for more help (the link includes images) - http://autorepair.about.com/od/fixityourself/ss/wh_bearing_old.htm
Please post comments if you need more help or information...........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Packing front wheel bearings

what I do is put a glob of grease in the palm of my hand and push bearing down in to grease untill you see the grease come out of the bearing or you can go to your local parts store and get a bearing grease packer. also wipe spindal with a genorus glob and put grease in between bearing in rotor. To get to the bearings all you need to do is remove tire, center cap (outter grease seal) the silver cap in the center. the cotter pin, Nut, washer outter bearing then the rotor will slip off inner bearing is in rotor still being held in by inner grease seal take seal off replace with new one pack your bearings and reverse removal procedure when retightening nut do not make tight just snug the go another turn if you go to tight you will burn your bearings real fast.

Can not get the rotors off my 97 hyundai tibaron

Hyundai Tiburon 96-01 uses a outer hub system. To replace front rotors. You'll need front bearings as well. The bearing and hub will need to be pressed out of the spindal. Then replacement of bearing will need to be pressed in. From a shop.Or they can use a slide hammer to remove ,but damages the bearing. Best to buy bearing and have cash for an alignment job too. Then replace front rotors. Rotor and hub install is ez after you get bearing pressed.Rear rotor and bearing are bolt on though.

Noisy front wheel bearing

It is possible but i do reccomend changing the bearing races in the hub when you do it to prevent any premature wear on your new bearings. A new hub/rotor assembly will come with new races installed if that makes it any easier.
