Whenever I place a blank dvd in the drive, it can't detect it, although it can detect just about anything else that's not blank it would seem. When I try to run Nero to burn a dvd, it freezes at around 3% and says that the dvd drive can't be found. Another weird thing I've noticed is that when I look at the hardware manager, the device is listed as DVR-111D instead of DVR-S111B. I've tried installing some of the drivers at the pioneers site but they don't seem to fix anything at all. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I have exactly the same problem. DVD RW detectablt on another laptop. But not only mine. y laptop can still play DVD but can't detect a blank one. Help Pls...!

Try upgrading the firmware.
2.) Try the drive on another computer to see if it works.
3.) if it does you might need to Format and Reinstall on your computer.
but it does sound as if the problem is with your drive rather than your pc if you got warrenty i'd suggest you take it back if not then try it on anoter computer to ensure its the drive before getting a new one

Whoops sorry...forgot to include the specifics. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Gateway laptop, Pentium 4 2.8GHz with 480 MB of RAM, I've tried burning using the Nero program but came to no avail, I've using TDK dvd+r for burning, and when I try to explore the dvd drive through 'my computer' when a blank dvd is in there, it says the drive is not accessable and also says 'incorrect function'.
