I have a Brother SE-400 where the needle bar is completely seized. I was sewing, ran over a pin, and my machine just stopped. The wheel would not turn at all. I removed the plastic case and loosened the set screw on the needle bar crank rod from the needle bar and everything moves freely, except I am unable to move the needle bar - even with the crank rod disconnected.

Use a penny or a nickel in the screw head. Works like a charm

I had the same problem.. I think the bobbin used in this machine is no good I replaced mine.. It cost alot too.. but now I do not have any problems.. good luck
SOURCE: while sewing the bobbin case moves, wheel locks up, needle locks
Im not sure if this will help but thought I would pass it along. My Pfaff 6122 tells me to check bobbin for thread unrolling clockwise before you place it back in the machine. I had mine turned to un roll counter clockwise, this is wrong, the bobbin will fall out when you pull on the thread while you are holding it in your hand. You may just keep putting it in backwards. Hope this works for you. J.R.

There is a set screw above the needle pin screw which tightens with an allen wrench--try that.

The needle holder has a screw right above the screw that holds the needle in place. It really doesn't look like a screw because it does not appear to have a slot for a screwdriver. However, with a small flat head screw driver you can tighten it up. There is also a curverd wire that must be inserted into a slot at the bottom of the holder. The screw tightens against the wire that tightens against the post. (It's a curved wire that curves around the front part).

Hi Justin , I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? If you are in Bloemfontein I could help sort your problem out for you. Henry Jackson
I tried to be as descriptive as possible, please let me know what additional information you would like. It appears after disconnecting the mechanical linkage to the needle bar it still will not move. There are two guide holes it runs through, the only thing I can think of is something in one of them? There is an extremely tight tolerance on them though, I'm not sure how something could get between the outside of the guide hole and the needle bar.
