Sensor needs replacement

This camera has not been used very much. Now when trying to take a picture on the viewfinder you see horizontal stripes. You can view pictures already on memory. Wolf's Camera says the repair is $289. I am seeing references on-line to a recall that expired Oct. 2. Is there a contact person or phone number at Sony to see if they will cover this? How were owners supposed to be notified? This was was purchased by a school system.

It looks great in the viewfinder, but when I snap the picture, there are horizontal white stripes and a faded out picture. I keep checking my white balance, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I can't find my instructins anywhere.

All I get is blurred flame-like images; a camera shop said it was sensor. What can I do? I've used this camera a lot, and don't want to lose it. Please help!

When you say 'played back', do you mean viewed on the camera screen, or after downloading to your computer ? If the latter, it could be to do with the software you are using - try FastStone.

My Olympus FE-340 camera went from making very light striped pictures to completely black with nothing showing up. Can you help? It is only aroung 15 months old.

Hi there,

Your camera had a CCD (image sensor) problem. And this is something recognized by all digital camera manufacturers.

Olympus is distinguishing themselves by offering to repair affected cameras, even if they aren't displaying the problem yet. Their free repair policy is extended for up to four years from the original purchase date.

For more information of your problem, you can click the link below.

The pictures have horizontal lines

This is electronic shutter problem that is the reason you get blinder effect/ noise on picture. Electronic shutter is located in lens mechanism and lens assembly will be replaced to solve the issue. Nearest Samsung service center or local camera repair shop will help you to replace lens assembly.
Thanks.

Flashing horizontal stripes on screen while shooting

The following is from Canon. You can send the camera back for free repair. Hope this helps.

It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensor used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.
Based on the information you have provided, it appears that you may have encountered this issue. To determine if the CCD (image sensor) is working properly, please follow these steps:

1. Insert a memory card with known good images on it into the camera.

2. Power the camera on to the Playback mode.

3. Press the DISPLAY (DISP) button to enable the LCD panel, and observe the LCD.

a. If the images are displayed properly, please proceed to step
four.

b. If the images are not displayed, or a "NO IMAGES" message appears, please ensure that the memory card contains known good images.

c. If the card contains known good images, and the issue persists with a second memory card, the camera will require service.

4. Switch the camera to the Camera mode. You may use any shooting mode(i.e. Auto, Manual).

5. Press the DISPLAY (DISP) button to enable the LCD panel.

6. Point the camera at a well-lit scene and observe the LCD and/or viewfinder. If the scene the camera is pointed at appears on the LCD and/or viewfinder, the CCD is operating properly. If the LCD and/or viewfinder remain black, the camera requires service.

Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned
malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.

We would like to send you a pre-paid shipping label so that you may send your camera to our Factory Service Center for repair. Please reply to this message with the following information so we may send the label:

1. Full Name:
2. Company (if any):
3. Shipping Address (include Street, City, State and Zip):
4. Phone Number:
5. Digital camera model:
6. Camera Serial Number:
7. Date the camera was purchased:

NOTE: We are unable to ship to a PO Box, FPO or APO addresses.

My photosmart M537 begins to make stripes on the pictures

Hey piticanella,
What is most likely the cause of this is a faulty sensor, and you should have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. You could bring it to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store and they should be able to send it out for service. I will say that unless the camera is covered under the manufacturers warranty digital camera repairs often exceed the value of the camera. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Blurry picture on Canon A80

I don't know what you told that technician, but try this. Download some of your pictures and videos to your computer. If the downloaded pictures look fine on your computer, then the technician was right, and it's probably just a loose LCD ribbon cable connection.

BUT if the downloaded pictures also look blurry with stripes, then it's probably a faulty CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. BUT MAKE SURE you tell the technician this time that it is showing up on your DOWNLOADED pictures. I recommend trying again, and hope for a more knowledgeable tech on the line this time. Please check the following two links for more info:
