Question about Emerson MW8777W Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwave problem Hello. My name is Faith. I have an Emerson Microwave Model MW8995W and I've had it for over eight years. Last night it just stopped working. My husband bought a new fuse for it, but it appears to have another problem elsewhere. Is there a way to find out what is causing the short?

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open.

When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

I would like to download or view a manual for the Emerson Microwave, model MW9938SB

Are you sure about the model number? Many Emerson appliance manuals are available here: . However, no MW9938 microwave is listed. There is an MW9338SB and an MW9998SB. Similar models that have 9 as the last digit are also listed.

Please add a comment after double-checking the model number. It's also possible that a manual for a similar model will help you use your microwave.

I hope this helps.

How do I fix the turntable that will not turn

There's usually a belt that drives it, probably broken or stretched beyond useful. If you're comfortable opening up the unit, go find it and replace. Identify part from drawing for your model (Google) and order replacement online.
OR, buy a wind-up turntable made for microwaves. Good luck!

Emerson microwave MW8992SB Just nothing. No clock no light. worked last night.Has electricity to it.

The main fuse has blown inside the microwave, the most common reasons are, one or more of the door switches is defective, the high voltage capacitor has shorted, or possibly the high voltage diode, and sometimes it just the fuse. I recommend a tv tech or appliance repairman because there are dangerous high voltage present.

Need to replace turntable model no. MW8995W

I have the same problem. Emerson gave me the name of a parts company (Fox International 1-800-321-6993) and they can supply a replacement when it comes off of backorder (anywhere from two to twelve weeks).
