Frank, have scanned and diagnosed by a good technician, estimate for repair. "I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button. Check out some of my other posts if you need more tips and info."
The engine in this car is controlled by a computer, whenever you have a stall like this the computer will record a fault code for the event, you must have the system scanned to get that code, then based on the code you start the diagnostic to repair the problem, which in your case is likely a CKP sensor. But that is just a guess, don't replace anything until the testing confirms it is the problem.
clean the throttle body opening, take off the air intake tube, and spray some carb cleaner into the opening,, you don't need to use much,, wipe it out with a clean soft rag,, be sure and clean the throttle body flow plate,, sometimes they get gunked up and won't close properly,, which will also cause the pulsing,,
forget the fuel filters you are barking up the wrong tree here ,you have either a perished engine breather pipe ,or a fault with a air leak on the inlet manifold ,providing that your 1990 year of manufacturer is correct
THROTTLE BODY needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Hand clean the sensor and idle valve, they are electric do not soak them, check them also, Idle valve likes to stick and position sensor likes to go out. HUNT
Most of the starts but dies problems are caused by dirt/water/debris in the carburetor float bowl.
You can try draining the gas out of the carburetor float bowl by removing the float bowl nut located on the bottom of the carburetor.
Make sure the hole in the float bowl nut are clean. If the problem persists after draining the float bowl nut you will have to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carb with compressed air and carb cleaner.
I have a McCulloch, that the hose rotted off the fuel strainer in the tank, I replace the hoses, it ran for awhile then stopped, removed the carb. an have cleaned, { 7 Times} it runs for awhile then stops, Usually I dump lighter fluid in the carb. if it starts Ign is OK if not its a fuel problem. You could check on the filter, I still have a problem with mine, its a pain when your on the roof an it stops. so check the fuel filter is the only thing I could suggest to you GOOD LUCK
