COMPUTER WANTS PASSWORD, THERE ISN'T ONE

TOSHIBA SATELLITE VISTA BASIC. LAPTOP WENT TO BLACK SCREEN AND WHEN REBOOTED IT ASKS FOR A PASSWORD, WHICH I NEVER SET UP. HELP HELP CANNOT GET INTO COMPUTER AT ALL. Decided the computer needed a reboot. When I restarted it, it (appeared to be BIOS) immediately asked for a bassword. I never set one; didn't even know there was one. Does this computer have a battery for the CMOS like the desktops do?

It might be worth having a quick look here first:

http://www.laptop-repair.info/toshiba_bios_password.html
Resetting a Toshiba BIOS Password KeyDisk will reset the BIOS password on Toshiba laptops.

Keydisk - http://www.cgsecurity.org/keydisk.exe

** I have downloaded this file myself from the link above and scanned it with microsoft one care, it came up clean **

Some Toshiba's can be convinced to bypass the startup BIOS password if you hold down the <LEFT-SHIFT> key while booting the system.

Yes it does, you can remove this battery for 1/2+ hour to set the BIOS back to the default settings. Most like this won't work because the password is not stored in the BIOS.

You can try
Toshiba

Toshiba BIOS
Most Toshiba laptops and some desktop systems will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot.

Let me know if you suceed.

Toshiba satellite laptop lockout

is it a windows password or poweron password? you must be wondering what are they?
windows password is when you have to enter the password to get into windows and before that you get to see the windows loading screen.
poweron password is hard to crack, it will ask a password on a black screen saying Enter a Password, and the background will be completely black in color.
if its a windows password, press the "Alt+Ctrl+Del" twice, you'll get a screen which will ask you a username and password. in the username and password type in, "Administrator" and password will be blank. hit enter. if it works, then for the rest of the steps, mail me at [email protected]

LAPTOP WENT TO BLACK SCREEN AND WHEN REBOOTED IT ASKS FOR A PASSWORD, WHICH I NEVER SET UP. TOSHIBA SATELLITE VISTA BASIC.

This happens with some Toshiba models. You can try holding down the left shift key or left control key while it boots up. If that doesn't work then the BIOS is messed. There's a fix for it apparently but that doesn't help you when you can't even get into windows! It's a firmware upgrade. If you recently purchased it, take it back to the shop. You could also try calling support for Toshiba. They may offer a free easy fix. I would hope.
