TOSHIBA SATELLITE VISTA BASIC. LAPTOP WENT TO BLACK SCREEN AND WHEN REBOOTED IT ASKS FOR A PASSWORD, WHICH I NEVER SET UP. HELP HELP CANNOT GET INTO COMPUTER AT ALL. Decided the computer needed a reboot. When I restarted it, it (appeared to be BIOS) immediately asked for a bassword. I never set one; didn't even know there was one. Does this computer have a battery for the CMOS like the desktops do?
It might be worth having a quick look here first:

** I have downloaded this file myself from the link above and scanned it with microsoft one care, it came up clean **
Some Toshiba's can be convinced to bypass the startup BIOS password if you hold down the <LEFT-SHIFT> key while booting the system.
Yes it does, you can remove this battery for 1/2+ hour to set the BIOS back to the default settings. Most like this won't work because the password is not stored in the BIOS.
You can try
Toshiba
Toshiba BIOS
Most Toshiba laptops and some desktop systems will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot.
