Question about Plantronics DSP-400 Headset

1 Answer

Can't Hear Anything

My DSP-400 is testing as 'working properly', but I can't hear anything through the headset. I phoned someone on Skype and they could hear me perfectly but I could hear nothing.
None of the 'mute' boxes are ticked. I did the 'hardware test' and it passed.
The volume controls are set above halfway.
Please help.

Thanks for the quick reply, Ben,
I think there's something wrong with the 'dongle?' on the wires leading up to the 'cans'. There is a little diode light on that which isn't illuminated and a 'plus' and 'minus' sign. I think that's probably where the fault is. On the hardware test the meter moves when I speak to indicate that sound is going to the 'cans', but it just ain't getting there. Grrrrrrrr!

It's been lying in the box for months now. Only got around to installing it tonight. I'm sure it's out of warranty. Ah. well. Not to worry, I'll get out me screwdriver tomorrow and see if I can find a loose connection.
Anyway, what are you doing up at this hour, helping people like me with their problems? You should be resting yourself for your spat with S.Africa. I hope you're getting your face painted and your rugby shirt on. Should be a good game.

Well, I'm the only one, still up in Ireland. It'll be getting bright soon.
I'm like yourself; find it hard to sleep. Fed up counting sheep!

Did it come with software if so did you install that?

If you have it may just be a loose wire in the headset, i would take it back and ask for a replacement.

Hope this helps,

and good luck.

I would take it back, just tell them the fault and they should be happy to replace it :)

Microsoft LifeChat Microphone Headset Doesn't Work Properly

You should take your headset to another computer/location and see if your problem still exists.
That way you can eliminate problems with either your computer hardware or your outgoing internet connection (jitter).
I don't think that the CD will be necessary, since it is a USB device, which contains it's own little sound card and doesn't need any drivers.
If the problem persists and it turns out to be a problem with the headset, I would definitely return/exchange it.

Skype Test Call

Hello, No the Linksys router should not have anything to do with your Skype services. Try the following:

1. Use a different microsphone other than the one you are using now. The mic test in windows is not always reliable.

2. Follow the Skype instructions for test calls not working.

3. Check you sound setting in control panel.

I cant hear anything out of my headset

Is the headset paired and connected to your phone? Is bluetooth turned on in your phone? Look for the bluetooth icon on top of your phone's screen. Let me know what model phone you have and I can help you troubleshoot.
