Question about Bosch HCBG500, 5 Pc Industrial Hammer Drill Bit Set

Throwing oil I own a Bosch "Bull Dog" hammer drill, model #11228VSR. I loaned it to my neighbor a few years ago and noticed later that it now leaks oil out around the rubber gasket near shaft. I believe he over heated something. It still works, but when it warms up it leaks oil around the rubber gasket near the body and drill shaft. Any help on a self fix would be appreciated. Thanks.

I really dont worry about the leak near the shaft because with out the oil in the shaft there is a possibility that the shaft can jam. even dewalt new hammer when you purchase it come with the grease/lube like a toothpaste size. this is to lube the bits for the purpose the bit/shaft can move freely & also can hammer freely. our you can do is to dis-assemble the front end sleeve & remove the excess oil.will i agree weather can also change the viscosity of the oil. varsol cleaner can do the trick available at walmart.

Bosch Oil (part number 1615437511) comes in 50ml volume. This is the correct amount of lubricant for the Bosch 11248EVS Rotary Hammer.

If you are replacing the oil you might consider ordering the 1617000451 Service Pack. You can order the (part number 1615430019) Oil in 1000ml increments and it gives you more bang for your buck and lasts a while.

The problem is its a little leak in front of the tool the oil is having not the right consistency anymore get a bosch number 1 617 000 451 service kit and 1 615 437 511 new oil

Its normal and is the best option to replace all the parts of this maintenance kit and the oil.

Top up the transmission with PAG150 oil. The Bosch stuff is hideously expensive, but it's the same as the 150-grade oil used in car a/c systems. I fill them so the oil *just* covers the big gear.

There is an o-ring on the striker that will wear down over time, this needs to be changed, of worst case the striker has stuck in the hammer piston. Both these repairs should really be done by a service center as these hammer drills are complicated to repair if you are not familiar with them. Any Bosch service center will be able to help you. Just go to the Bosch website and find a center in your area.

It could possibly be that your brushes (Bosch part number 1617000525) are worn down to where the drill won't work any more. Take the two screws out of the back of the handle and remove the housing cover to check them. More likely your switch (Bosch part number 2607200918) has gone bad. If you lost the variable speed a while ago that was a sign the switch was already breaking down. Also located inside the housing cover, you can check for burnt wires or melted plastic around the switch but it is possible the switch is bad without having any visible problems outside. Fairly easy to replace, just make sure you connect the four wires to their proper contacts.

I always where possible dismantle new and sometimes older small power tools with gear boxes and replace or add to the grease with Molybdenum disulfide grease which reduces the friction a surprisingly large amount therefore increasing the available power at the tool tip and extending the life of the tool by a insignificant amount .
It is particularly noticeable in my Bosch jig saw.

have you tried turning the speed dial up and down a few times, sometimes that works. I am not aware of any to bypass the electronic circuits in this tool.

It is hard to understand what you are asking, however I have found that with the SDS drills one does NOT want to crowd them but just let the tool work with light pressure...

Oil leaking from gear box on hammer drill

Where is the oil leaking from. By the chuck, or the selector knob, or is it leaking from where the gear housing meets the motor housing. I could be one of 3 things. There is a seal between the two housings that could be damaged, not likely though. There is an oring on the selector knob that can get worn, and there is a sealed bearing on the spindle that should not let any oil through. There should not be any oil in this tool for lubrication. Grease is used in this tool for lubrication. If you are getting oil or a liquidy type substance coming out it is more than likely the grease has broken down and needs to be replaced.
