Machine makes loud grinding noise and the drum will not spin.

What exactly is this 'loud noise'? Is it a constant grinding or rumble sound that changes with drum speed or is is an occasional thumping, banging noise as the drum speeds up or slows down? A grinding or rumble is often a drum bearing and Thumping is commonly the 'suspension' the drum rides in to stop it 'walking across the room or shaking itself to pieces as it goes into high spin speeds. Your machine's age will only affect you if it is a very old machine and parts are difficult to find.

Bangs, thumps, grinding? If your washer is making a loud noise you can be sure it has something to do with a bearing. But which one? There are two common bearings inside washing machines: the rear drum bearing or a tub bearing.

It can that the spin drum is touching the body if not you can leave it until its broken my machine is doing tht also

Check presence a stranger subject in drum. Shine the torch and swing the drum.
If rubbish no that necessary to change the bearings.

check the motor bushes,and also check for bearings in drum you can check this by lifting the inner drum up and down if you feel a knocking noise then this will be the bearings have worn.

if its brand new it shouldnt be making a loud grinding noise id get it checked make sure they removed all shipping bolts

Sounds like main drum bearing noise, try turning the drum by hand, if it feels rough or you can hear it grinding or rumbling, then it is the the main bearings that have failed..
You will probably need to call an engineer.
