SOURCE: recover a Sony VGC-RA710G computer

Unfortunately there is no way that you'll be able to test those recovery CD's without having to use them. Keep in mind that those discs only cover software and do not backup your documents. I recommend an external hard drive to do so. However in terms of Microsoft Office, if you have Vista you may a problem getting it reinstalled because Microsoft has introduced new DRM technologies to prevent theft. Have you used all 3 of your licenses?
The great thing is that in the worst case scenario you merely have to be on the phone with Microsoft for 10-15 minutes getting a new activation code.

Upgrade the cpu for a sony vaio vgc-ra834g pc

I have upgraded cpu in the past, its a solution that is limited as you prob cant upgrade it again, newer motherboards support newer cpu, Maybe look for a cpu mobo combo to buy them both, Depends how much you can afford.dont forget if its an older mobo, it prob takes the slower memory, todays is faster. will your old mobo support newer graphics cards if you play games ??

I just got a new power supply for my old SONY VAIO VGC ra710g box. Need help removing old one and installing new one

Power supplies are pretty easy to replace.

I would recommend taking a picture of the inside of the computer case so you have a reference. The connectors are all oriented so you cannot misplug.

I assume you have the right PS for your unit.

HELP! No video on Sony Vaio VGC-RA710G desktop

Since the power supply wasn't secured properly it actually contacted the motherboard while it was still carrying a charge. For next time, I use zap straps for all of my wires and to secure components. Try removing the motherboard and doing the power supply self test, most likely you will have to replace both the motherboard and CPU though.

Optical Drive does not opent

If you had a CD in it, the CD may have wedged itself such that the tray cannot be extended. If it was empty, you may have a gear that is no longer making contact with the tray. I would remove it from the computer and look at taking the cover off the drive to see if the tray's path is obstructed.
