My Harmon Kardon receiver has recently developed a problem of going into Protect mode. I did reconnect all speaker inputs in the receiver and the problem still persisted. I also found out that my JBL woofer had a blown fuse. However, even after changing the fuse, the woofer still continues to blow the new fuse. I also tried reconnecting the speaker wires again without the woofer connection and the "Protect" issue still persisted. Could someone please help me in finding a fix to this issue ? Thanks !

thank you for the advise. i have the harmon kardon avr 3600 and was worried that i destroyed it. i will take it to a shop and get it fixed since it is a great receiver.
Check all speaker wiring for shorts, if okay! there is a problem in the audio output stage of the unit or the protection circuit is not working properly. I would suggest a pro to evaluate.
Maybe there's a correlation to those devices being attached. Float the the amp so it has no cables to anything and figure out why it's going into protect mode. If it doesn't, start adding units until it does.
To avoid making the avr go into protect mode when you power up your Hafler 4000 that is connected in the avr's pre-out, you must power up the set up in the correct sequence.
1. Turn off your avr
2. Connect Hafler 4000 to the avr's pre-out it it is not yet connected
3. Turn on your Hafler 4000. The avr will not go into protect mode becasue of the transients from the Hafler because it is still not powered on.
4. Turn on you avr. There should be no more transients from the Hafler at this stage unless it is not functioning correctly, so the avr shouldno longer go into protect mode.
I'm not sure if this solution is still necessary however:
I own a H/K AVR300 and have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI to the TV and Optical TOSLink to the receiver. I have no troubles selecting between DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1. I can even select trueHD whatever format but I can't detect an audible difference, I think that mode might be downgraded back to regular DD5.1...
