Laptop, display problem

Hi,
Dear User..Does the Screen have a displayed Image?

If the laptop has no image at all it can be video card or LCD cable or the LCD panel. About the only non-invasive test you can try is to plug an external monitor into the laptop. This will determine if the problem is motherboard/graphics card or lcd cable/lcd screen. If you have an image on the external monitor then its likely to be lcd/cable/lcd screen.

Is the Displayed Image Faint?

A dim screen can be caused by three things;

1/ The LCD inverter which runs the LCD backlighting

2/ The CCFL backlighting fluro tube in the LCD panel

3/ The motherboard supplying signal & voltage to the inverter.

Thanks

Why is my Gateway 4028GZ screen black

The display on this laptop is backlit. What that means, in a nutshell, is that the image on the display prevents the output from a constant light source (the back light) from showing through, thus giving a usable image on the screen. From your description, the backlight is no longer operating. This can be an issue with the LCD display panel, the backlight power module, our (less likely) a power trace on the motherboard. Repair would likely cost as much or more than replacing with a used laptop and just transferring your hard drive. If you choose to replace and swap hard drives make certain that the interface on the new laptop is the same as your Gateway's.

Sounds like your inverter or your backlight is failing. The inverter is an easy repair, the backlight can be replaced but it involves taking the LCD panel apart, The backlight comes installed on new screens. I can include a service manual below and possibly a generic guide to backlight replacement....

Black screen

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp or simply the video cable needs reseating. After reseating the video cable and the problem is still there then :- To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions. Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case. The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills. Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.

When the LCD is black and you can see a dim image on the screen then it is a black light problem. could be a faulty inverter but mosr likely a burnt out/worn out CCFL lamp. By connecting and external monitor to the video port, you can determine weather the video card is OK.
If you don't get an image on an external monitor then the video card is faulty and it is impossible to repair except by replacing the motherboard.

No display at power up.

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
