Question about Sharp R-9H66 Microwave Oven

Sharp carousel under counter microwave start doesn't always work

Sometimes when I push 'start' it doesn't turn the microwave on.  I go thru this little ritual to get it to start - I open the door, close it and listen for this little, very faint click.  If I hear this, I'm pretty sure that when I push 'start' it will turn on.  I open-close,open-close the door until the start button works.  I always eventually get it to turn on, but the obsessive compulsive behavior is starting to stick!  Can you clue me into what this problem is and how I might fix it?  Thanks.

Sounds like an intermittent door switch or a loose door switch mount. Very common.

At our site, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information.

Does microvave button makes sound and when you start push button does the turn table moves. If yes for sound ,and no for turn table then you might have door switch which is either doesent latching or might broke.
open oven (be sure to discharge capacitors).
check its closing properly(the switch)
and use DMM to check resistance that it doesn't show OL

Sometimes when I go to heat something in the microwave it doesn't heat but when I open the door and then close it it sometimes will work?

Sounds like the door switch is going bad this is the switch that "tells" the microwave the door is closed so that way it doesn't run with it open

Won't whut off when open door

The microwave running with the door open can be dangerous.

It's most likely the switch in the door stuck in the closed position. Or it has failed/broken in the closed position.

Sometimes the switch is just a button sticking out of the cabinet where the door pushes on it when closed -- sometimes the door latch pushes on a switch inside the latch receiver in the cabinet.

If cleaning around that switch doesn't solve the problem, you should take it to a repair shop.

New Kenmore microwave won't start

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

Not guaranteed to reveal the trouble, but sometimes it does.

There's a good chance it could have been bumped in shipping, causing misalignment of the door hinges or switches.

Microwave seems to turn on when door latch is opened

What's happening is you are activating one door switch a little before the other, and that is causing your light, fan, and turntable to come on. The plastic parts are not perfectly rigid, so they flex a little when you press the button, and that causes the lag to be more apparent. Even if you press the door open faster and look really close, you may notice the light, fan, and turntable coming on for a split second. That's perfectly normal. The relay on the control board must also be turned on before it will actually be cooking.
