This e500 has USB1.0 and transfer rate will be slow. If you use Win 98 then install the USB driver (get on web) first. Install software then plug in the USB lead from the crw-785 and don't forget to plug in the DC adaptor for the drive, (e500 USB port does not have enough power to run external drives other than some older thumbdrives).
The Armada series are really nice pice of art. A bit old but nice... so, u can't login on windows? Use a Windows XPE (yeah, with "E") CD... on the iNet are many of those, and most of them come with a software for "unlocking" any user password of Windows XP.
And if u are talking about the password of the BIOS then u will have to open u notebook and remove the CMOS battery for minimun 1 minute. That will restore the default settings of your notebook, the settings that comes from factory, deleting any configuration made by the user.
See if you can track down the power rating for the ports on the laptop, and the rating on the cam. This will tell you whether it's the cam exceeding the power or bad ports, and you will also know the power requirement for getting a different cam if necessary.
The exceeding power cannot be fixed, the port are only allotted and capable of a certain power range. If the ports are faulty, they will need to be replaced, some are removable and some are soldier directly to the motherboard.
First tell that which O/S it had earlier coz armada e500 notebook comes with 64 MB RAM and 12 GB HARD DISK , had you upgraded your notebook with RAM AND HARD DISK .
If not then check the hard disk space you have left in the notebook.
