Is the vent supposed to move back and forth freely ( it`s not moving ), or do I need to replace the damper motor if the vent is stuck in the open position?

It is possible it has a bad thermostat but most likely cause would be a bad damper motor.  It is the vent inside the fridge that opens and closes, based on temp. setting, to allow cold air from the freezer into the fridge section.

It is a motor that moves according to the position of the freezer control.  The colder you set the freezer the more shut the damper should be.  The warmer the freezer setting the more open the damper should be.  It may not respond in movement as soon as you adjust the freezer temp. but should within a 1/2 hour give or take.  Adjust the freezer to the coldest temp.  Wait a little while and see if the damper closes.  If not I would say the damper is bad.

Hello Joel, thank you for your post!

I understand that you would like to change the temperature readout on your Frigidaire refrigerator, FSC23F7DSB. In order to change your temperature display you need to hold the fresh food arrow up and then press the freezer up arrow 3 times within 5 seconds. I hope this information is helpful. -OOS

Refrigerator is too cold (28 degrees)

this is likely one of the thermistors on the fresh food side has failed. They are usually located under a small cover inside the fridge. They should have a reading of 15.5k-16.5k ohms at 72 degrees. They are easy to check and replace. Here is a link that should help. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model.

I bought a model FRT18B5JB2 in August 'o9 to put out in the garage for extra cooling and freezing room This winter the freezer is not keeping items frozen. They are no thawed completely, but they are not...

Refrigerators do not work correctly in the winter in unconditioned space.
It is too cold for the unit to run normally. The compressor oil gets sluggish and strains the compressor when it does run.
The thermostat never warms enough for the unit to come on and run.
Therefore the temperatures in fresh food and freezer stay at the top end of the set point. This would cause about 42-43 in fresh food and around 18-25 in the freezer.
In the spring time it should start running correctly again.

It runs to much

1) Are the temperature readings you give measured with a thermometer, or just the temperature settings you set the freezer and refrigerator for?
2) Ice cream "stays frozen, but not hard", I'm not quite sure I understand you point. Ice cream will usually stay solid enough in a refrigerator/freezer to be easily dip able. Frozen hard is not normally good as you can't dip it. Please confirm what yu are wanting.

Frigidaire FRS23H5SB6 side-by-side freezing food

It sounds like the fan in the freezer behind the rear panel is not working. You should be able to hear it. It won't run with the door open so hold the door switch in.

Frozen food in fridge

Start with a total clean, vacuum and defrost. Unplug it before cleaning the motor compressor area. Make sure all the coils you can reach are clean. Plug it in and see what happens. If still the same - time to have a tech do pressure tests.
