If wet phone thought to never work gets replaced, and new phone has same problem but original phone is working fine except the touch screen lock won't accept the touch numbers to unlock, is it possible it just needs to be activated again?

you might try carefully opening the phone and cleaning the inside parts thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol and a gentle brush.

You cant try this...get a bowl of dry rice, put the phone in and cover it up, leave the phone in for 48 hrs. Dont touch it.
Sounds like there is remaining moisture. if this doesnt resolve the issue you will need a new phone

try heating it with a hair dryer..not too much and not the screens for sure...you still have moisture in the phone.

replace the digitalizer(the touch screen) . maybe she dropped it or used the phone with wet hands and that will cause the touch screen to stop work.

Did the phone get wet? It may be either your lcd screen or your logic board. I doubt it's a connection issue because it initally works fine. If Apple doesn't replace it for you, you can find the lcd or logic board at iPhone 3GS Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to put in the part at iPhone Repair Guide.

Problem is not screen joanne. its your keypad. you have to replace the keypad and your touch will work again. buy original keypad only. tested by me.

Hi, I had the same problem. Whenever, I touched my screen the wrong things would respond, then finally one day my phone locked & when I tried to unlock it the screen wouldn't respond at all.Took my phone to 3 sprint stores and all the techs couldn't help. One even accused water damage or overheating because they saw spots under my screen. But I never wet my phone so I thought it might be overheating since I do live in a warm climate. They all tried to get me to buy a new phone, which seemed like a scam. I didn't want to hard reset & lose all my data so I looked closer at the screen & noticed the spots didn't look like water spots & peeled the screen back. I noticed that the glue from around the screen actually leaked onto the screen, so I dampened one end of a q-tip & wiped the glue off the dryed it with the other end. I turn the phone back on and the screen worked fine. Try cleaning thr screen before doing a hard reset or paying for a replacement phone. It'll save you time & headache.
