I have a mah5500b. prob is washer will not start or do anything. it just beeps. tried the diagnostic test. by pressing delicates and heavy soil. led shows 00. when i push other buttons to check functions. nothing happens. it just beeps. have even tried unplugging for 10 sec to a hour . nothing changes. even pulled door lock mechanism off and checked for corrosion or anything broke. could see no prob;s there. when i had it off i could move the switch and door lock and unlock light would activate but nothing happened. pretty bad when i can work on cars and fix them but can't fix a washer.

    Every once in a while, the washer decides it doesn't want to wash and just beeps at me. Nothing works to fix it--unplugging it, turn off, open and close door. I just need to wait a while and then, sometimes, it decides it will work now.

    I had the same issue! I also put the control in service check, then did a spin check to see if it would do anything. It performed the spin check, so I did a quick test, and it went through the full cycle. After pushing the off button twice, the machine is working fine. I can't explain why it now works, but it does!

I had a similar problem on my Neptune. All the machine would do is beep. I believed it was a stuck button so I got a new touch pad and that solved the problem. I also substituted a control board prior to buying the touch pad but the problem was the same.

Mah5500b mother board

Sounds more like the key is stuck or shorted.
You can try to do a membrane test by putting it into the service mode. Have the unit on, press and hold the delicates and heavy soil key together until it shows 00 on the display. Next
press the wrinkle free key. This will let you test every key on the keypad. You can toggle them off and on and see if they are responding. If they are not responding then you can assume that the keypad is your problem.
The keypad is not hard to install. Just a ribbon that plugs into the board. You may want to try to clean the end of the ribbon with a eraser and see if that fixes the problem. Always work with unit unplugged.

How do you put a Maytag MAH5500B into service mode to check the diagnostics?

Hold down the 'delicates' and 'heavy soil' keys for 3 seconds. Hold the same down for 3 seconds to get back to normal.

I get an NF error code and the washer sounds like it's filling, but never does, and then there is water in the detergent dispenser.

There is something that is interrupting the inbound flow of water to the washer, either hot or cold. Sometimes this happens when water service in the area is interrupted, creating an air pocket that causing the water valve not to sense water. Try running the diagnostic test by:

  • Now, press wrinkle free key, cold water should start entering.
  • Then, press the cotton sturdy and hot water should flow.

I get a 3E error code or nf. My fill valves don't seem to be working properly. I get no water in my fabric softener cup. Fill is slow.

Washer will not start...indicator lights are on. We have unplugged and tried to start by pressing "cotton/sturdy" and the start/pause. Cannot change settings

Do you hear a double beep sound when depressing any of the other buttons? If so you most likely have a defective key panel. If nothing happens at all, it may be the home control board (inside the control panel). Before you replace the board, try this diagnostics test,
Press and hold the hand wash key and the heavy soil keys for 3 seconds. The display should go to "00" next press the spin only key and the machine should run a quick spin test. When this completes press the "off" key to exit service mode.
Now try the machine, and hopefully you have cleared it's software glitch.

SERVICE MODE
The service mode provides service personnel the
ability to verify the operation of the washing machine.
The service mode can be entered in the middle of
any wash cycle. While in the service mode, the
servicer can start a variety of special service tests.
Accessing Service Mode:
Pressing down the delicates and heavy soil keys for
3 seconds places the machine in the service mode.
Motor speed will be displayed when started. To exit
Service Mode, press delicates and heavy soil keys
for 3 seconds again.

Quick Service Cycle
While in service mode, pressing the delicates key
will start a quick service cycle. This will be a quick
check of all systems.
The following steps will be followed.
1. Energize the cold and bleach water valves. Fill to
Low level, then turn bleach and cold off.
2. Energize the hot and fabric softener water valves. Fill
to high level, then turn all valves off.
3. Lock the door.
4. Tumble using 7/3 tumble pattern for 12 sec.
5. Turn the drain on.
6. Spin to 800 RPM using default rates.
7. End spin and coast down.
8. Unlock the door when the RPM is zero.
9. Display a ‘PA’ (Passed) on continuously for 10 seconds
if no diagnostic codes were logged during this
test.
The up arrow if pressed will advance to the next step.
The right most dot will be turned on as an indication
of failure and stay on until quick service cycle test
has reached the end. Any diagnostic code logged
during this test will result in failure of the test, but will
not necessarily stop the test. While in quick service
cycle, the pressing of the hand wash will suspend
the machine at this step for 30 minutes until the
Hand Wash key is pressed again. All LED’s will
flash on and off while the cycle is suspended, or on
hold.
Motor Drive System
To check the system, check the board for proper
output to the motor control. Performing a board
output test does this. Then perform the Motor
Control Board Output Test.
Motor Control Board Output Test
1. Disconnect power to the washer.
2. Remove the front panel and pull the JP4 Connector
from the motor control board.
The following Quick Spin test steps are as follows:
1) Lock the door.
2) Spin to 350 rpm and hold for 6 seconds.
3) Spin to 550 rpm and hold for 6 seconds.
4) Spin to 600 rpm and hold for 6 seconds.
5) Spin to 650 rpm and hold for 6 seconds.
6) Spin to 800 rpm and hold for 6 seconds.
If the Spin key is pressed again during the Quick Spin
test, the current speed will be held indefinitely. Pressing
the Spin key again will allow the quick test to
proceed as listed above.
When the washer is in the Service Mode, the speed
will be displayed as a two digit number or a letter/
number.
Quick Spin Test
While in service mode, the pressing of spin key shall
start the washer in the quick spin mode.
3. Reconnect the washer power cord to supply
voltage. Make sure the door is closed.
4. Press delicates and heavy soil keys for 3 seconds
to activate Service Mode.

ladymaid, nf is the error for no fill. There could be a bunch or reasons for this but because you just moved I'm suspecting that a harness came loose on the control board or the motor control. First of all, and Im sure you did, make sure both water valves are on to the machine. If you are sure of that, press the delicates and heavy soil keys together for 3 seconds. Now you are in the service mode. In this mode press wrinkle free key, cold water should start entering. Press the cotton sturdy and hot water should flow. To exit the test mode, either unplug the machine or press the delicates and heavy soil again for 3 seconds. If the washer still does not fill, some complicated test will have to be run.
