SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro USB I/O device error

I have a SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro USB which will not allow me to open in my Removable disk (H:) drive. I have Windows 2000/XP and have tried opening the Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager. There is a yellow mark over U3 cruzer micro but when i try to check for solutions, it gives me an error (code 43). Please help as i have very important data that i cant loose.

Thanks,
Jessica

I would recommend plugging your Cruzer into another computer. It's possible that your computer has corrupted or incorrect drivers for the flash drive. This is one cause of the yellow alert in Device Manager. If you move the flash drive to another machine and it works, you can save your data and make a backup copy. If your Cruzer doesn't work in a different computer (I would try at least 2 other working computers), it's possible that the flash drive is faulty.

If you connect the flash drive to one (or more) other working computers and it won't function properly on any machine, it's time to try to recover your documents/files... depending on their worth. There are several good utilities out there that can recover most or all files from a partially failed flash drive or USB device. I personally use PhotoRescue Expert. It's designed to recover lost photos from flash media from cameras, but I've successfully recovered documents and other files from USB flash drives. There are some others out there, too that may work for you. Depending on the value of your data, it may be worth trying one or two of these recovery programs.

PC is not detecting my Cruzer micro pendrive but

I have experienced this type of problem before. But what I did was to install an Avira Anti-virus on a system using windows xp and eventually it did open.

So you can try it as well or insert your flash into any another system that had a strong anti-virus which can enable you scan/format the drive.

Best of Luck

Work through My computer once putting the disk in the USB port. It should read "removable device". Click back and forth from c: drive to my computer to make the computer recognize it faster. Then once the computer recognizes teh drive you will be able to send any file through right clicking the mouse and going to "send to" "removable disk". Let me know what happens.

Sandisk flash drive

Is the account that your tying to access the drive with an Administrator account? If not, Log in as Administrator and try to access the new drive. If you ARE using Administrator privileges on the vista machine, the problem lies in the U3 smart driver. Try downloading and installing the drivers for the XP SP2 os on scan disks website, If vista rejects the install package off of the scan disk website, let me know and i'll extract the drivers and build an install for them for you.
