Hi, Thank you for your time and service! My problem is I have a brand new Garmin 60csx and am having trouble with getting it to communicate with my computers. I have installed the software that came with the unit on both computers. I have attempted to use Mapsource and also Delorme's Topo 4. I have always had no trouble with using my Garman Explorist or Magellan gps to these programs. I have checked to make sure the baud rates and the com ports match up.
If you are using the USB port, you should have no need for setting COM ports.
Another technique you can use (which I just figured out today) was to place the Garmin Unit in "USB Mass Storage Mode". This allows you to offload saved tracks, but I don't think you can download waypoints or other things that the WayPoint Manager allows.
You can access this option via the Garmin Unit
Goto: "Main Menu" -> "Setup" -> "Interface". Press Down to get to the button "USB Mass Storage". Plug in that USB Mini cord, and you have a thumb drive!

Garmin or one of their authorized service centers are the only places to get spare parts. They will probably not sell it to you, requiring you to send it in for service. See Garmin.com for a list of service centers.
Go to Main Menu by pressing MENU button twice. Choose SYSTEM and press ENTER. You can change various settings on this page. Make sure that for GPS option 'Normal' is selected. If it is set to 'Battery Saver Mode' the GPS will switch off after certain time.
You have use the unlock wizard to install the key that is provided with the software. When I bought my Mapsource CitySelect, it came with two keys. The way Garmin does it is, you can install the software as many times as you want on as many machines as you want, but can transfer the maps, data, etc ONLY to unlocked devices. Last I checked Garmin wanted $75 for additional unlocks. Some data is not locked, like Topo maps and some tide points since this data is obtained (by Garmin) from the gov't, which is free for us (wel, minus taxes we pay). Contact Garmin support, they are very attentive.
Yes, have you enabled WAAS on your 60CSx? WAAS is an acronym for Wide Area Augmentation System, according to the instruction manual an FAA funded service to improve overall integrity of the GPS signal through North America.
If you are in an area which is not serviced by ground stations, having WAAS enabled may degrade the signal from the GPS satellites. Try enabling or disabling this feature.
To do so, acess the System Startup Page. On the Setup Menu page, highlight the System icon and press Enter. WAAS is the second available setting on this page.
Make sure your batteries are fresh; I prefer alkalines in this model. Set the battery type in the System Setup Page, same page as noted for WAAS above.
Another thought is to be sure you have the latest Garmin software installed. Visit their site to download the latest and greatest, free, of course.
Try a re-load of the chipset driver. It is available from the Garmin website. I find that it occasionally becomes corrupt. You can check by entering the "Main Menu" then "Setup" then "System" then press Menu and choose "Software Version". If the "GPS SW Version" is 0.00 then a reload of the chipset driver will correct the problem.
