That means, there's an error reading the files of windows system, or something else to start your Operative System.
Try to reinstall your windows.
If you get errors when you try to install the windows, tell us the error on the installation. It can be an Hard Disk problem and you must replace it.

disk controller failure - the chip from the laptop's motherboard that's controlling the disks is fried. Nothing you can do - all hd's will be unrecognized - that laptop is dead.
 Buy a new one.

SOURCE: MY LAP TOP MESSAGE SAYS... 1782 DISK CONTROLLER

You are getting this mess because the system is not able to detect a boot partition on the hdd or may be it is not able to detect the HDD itself.

Try to remove the HDD(hard disk) and re-seat it, Also make sure that there is no disk in the CD drive (in case the first boot device in the BIOS is set as CD drive).

Go to BIOS by pressing F10 (system setup) and check if the HDD is detected in BIOS.

Try to run a recovery by pressing F11 on first screen after power on.

Please get back for any further assistance.

Thank you for choosing Fixya

SOURCE: Non-system disk or disk error reapl......ENEY

means that it cannot read any information from the first boot device.
normally your hard disk..
however if you have plugged anything in like a penstick maybe, then it tries to boot from that.. so check you simply have not left a penstick or usb device with memory in (mobile phone). in the good old days it was usually somone had left a floppy disk in the drive...but I assume you have not got one of these in it???
if thats ruled out and thats your error. go into the bios (F2) I think but it tells you when you first switch on press [whatever] to enter setup...whatever it is press it.
look for the menu that tells you about your hard disk...MAIN
should look something like this 2pagescouk.jpg

ignore the red square
but see where it says 1st drive and then a model number...check that there is a model number there if not, theres probably something serious wrong with your Hard disk take it to a repairer or if your confident replace yourself and reinstall windows and all your drivers...plus you have probably lost all the data on there...hope you made backups
if there is a model number there, odds are the Operating system is corrupted, a repairer may be able to save your data (documents pictures) and reinstall OS or repair it. but thats not guaranteed.

SOURCE: I am having a problem with the boot of my compaq

First thing to do is enter the BIOS screen. This is the computers built in system configuration. Navigate to the Exit portion and choose "Load Setup Defaults" . Save the changes and exit. The Laptop will restart. If it is still showing, ensure there isn't a disk in the CD-rom. If all of the above doesnt help. Make sure the hard drive hasn't wiggled loose.

1782 disk control failure / non-system disk or disk error That is all it does

Stop the laptop, remove the battery, remove the hard disk and put the jumper located at the rear of your hard disk unit in the CS pins. Then return the hard disk to your laptop and the battery. Start the laptop, go directly to the BIOS and set the following boot order: 1-CD, 2-HD, the rest disabled.  That should be enough.

Try removing the jumper from the harddrive, then restart

or

Take the jumper off restart shut down and then put it back on again

or

remove the CMOS battery from system board and boot once after booting shutdown your system and insert the battery back, again start your system and press F1 next time it won't ask you for pressing F1. reset your BIOS after that (time, date, etc.)

Try these one should work.
