Check the aerial connection. Some FM radio's will mute the static and only pick up strong signals. If it is an FM AM radio check the AM radio. If that is OK and the connection's are good you might have faulty Tuner circuit, which would need a trained technician to look at.

Digital signals require better aerials than FM radio, a wire can pick up FM signals, but Digital won't pick up a thing.

Do you have the AM antenna hooked up? FM and AM need a separate antenna for each. An AM antenna is usually a "loop" antenna, which is a wire coiled around a frame.

your probably in a bad place and you wont pick up a signal like if your out of cell phone range, except your probably out of radio range for am stations.

Make sure the antenna cord at the back of the car stereo is plug in.

some of these mp3 players use the headphone wiring as the antenna...are you pugged in? also try removing the batteries for 30 minutes, and then restarting
