Question about Computers & Internet

Install wd elements external hard drive

I bought a new Toshiba A200/H01 notebook that runs Windows Vista. I have tried plugging in my Western Digital Elements 320gb Hard Drive but I am unable to open it.

When plugging it in, it updated the driver automatically and if I go to Device Manager I can see that the hard drive is there. However when I go to Computer (Start Menu) I am unable to see it there. Can you please help me, am getting frustrated as it had alot of important photos on there.

Real similar problem here, my Mac died so I want to get my iTunes music library off of the wd 500gb external drive I used with the mac, but when I plug the wd into my pc (using xp), I get the option to "safely remove..." and the device manager/find hardware all say that the wd external drive is working fine but I can't see it in the explorer (in the "right-click on the start menu" place. I tried macdrive, to no avail. I need to get my music collection back!

    Thanks guys and gals.

You shouldn't see it from the START button. That shows programs, not drives.  Try RIGHT clicking on the START button, then explore.  Can you find it there under MY COMPUTER ?

You must initialize first. OK plug it in, to to My Computer Icon, Right Click on it & and click MANAGE, window will open, RH side, now go down to Disk Management, click in that... Now find your drive and initialize it, Now you will be able to, if your drive is OK, Format, NTFS is best.

My Mac will not store data on my wd external hard-drive

Take it back to where you bought it, and get a replacement,
or at least get them to demonstrate that it _does_ work, when connected to a Mac computer (not a Windows computer).

No installation disc, but apparently i didnt need one

I bought the same product, I noticed that connecting the device to the USB ports at the back of the PC body and using shorter cable solved the problem, try each of the ports at the back of the PC.
