Water come from top of freezer.
My appliance guy said that the tube carrying water to evaporator gets clogged when water in tube freezes up. water then has nowhere to go so drips down sides of freezer compartment. Easiest solution is to turn refrigerator off and allow to defrost for 2 days, doors open. Ice in the hose will melt and hose will dry out and hopefully this will buy us another year or more. It's a hassle to move and store food but cheaper than paying for a repair. he says GE Monogram is NOT repair-friendly (in terms of design); at $95 an hour too expensive to do this repair. Needs a "drain heater" to prevent this from happening. also says this is a design flaw that is well known. GE gives the runaround on the 800 number to discourage consumers. GE does not stand behind their products. We are defrosting now and I hope it works!!

Greetings......easy, but time consuming. Did a lot of research on-line with almost zero help. Called GE, also zero help. Did get that the drain hose might be clogged....it was. If you have one of these GE Monogram fridge's, the drain hose is a clear, large hose that you can see if you remove the cover just above each door. Look on the left side compartment and you will see the hose. It drains into the right hand compartment into a shallow pan, then it evaporated. If it is clogged.....shut down power to freezer side. Take out all the shelves, to make it easier. Might want to remove light bulb so you do not spill water on it and shatter it. With a Phillips Head screw driver remove the ise maker. It just unplugs, then remove the back panel, it too just unplugs. The upper shelve/cover has 6 or 8 screws. Once you remove the cover it might be iced over. Let thaw. There is a layer of foam/instillation that is directly over the coils. This too might need to thaw. Lots of water dripping from the ice melting. You can lower the left hand side of the tray where the water is gathered prior to it going into the clear tube, then evaporated. I got a small 1/4" tube and feed it into the larger clear tube and charged it with air from my compressor. The clog exited in a real hurry into the right hand compartment. Put the freezer back together and good to go. Make sure you get the foam insulation back together properly, screws all back in place and you are back in business. All of this for FREE.
