The Heritage II Legend...First you make sure that the machine is unplugged from any outlet,. Now, raise your height adjust to the highest level. Next you will need to turn your belt lifter on the front of the nozzel to the right as far as you can. Now flip the hinged light cover up, and turn the latch that holds down the head to the left. Your nozzle is now released. Now take the hose and roll it on to the bar from the front to the back, make sure it is aligned and then turn the latch to the right locking the hose, and you are ready to kirby it up! Hope this fixesya! Let me know, Thanks, Rene (the Vacuum Doctor)
As long as it is Kirby belt - you should be fine. Make sure that the shaft is clean and that you do not vacuum something greasy or wet (grease or oil will lubricate the belt and shaft will loose the grip -heat up and burn). Make sure that brush roll spins freely. I am assuming you know how to put the nozzle on properly (if you not sure - go here)
http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=0&thid=832437 Generic problem for all Vacuums How do you put a Posted by boogerjrjr on July 25, 2008 How do you put a new belt on Kirby Heritage Legend II Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. . The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting. http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=11562&thid=699518 Kirby Heritage 84 Posted by sixbrocks on Jun 23, 2008 I can't figure out how to get the belt engaged on my Kirby Heritage 84. There are very simple instructions on the front assembly; however, the belt doesn't engage with the rotor, and the beater bar does not spin. When I have the front twisting section on the "Belt On" setting, it seems as though it actually disengages the belt. I see no faults in any of the mechanical parts, but just can't get the belt to go on the rotor. (I purchased this machine @ a garage sale on Saturday. It's in perfect condition.) My vacuum cleaner is a Kirby 84 Legend. Help!Jennifer Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. You can always check your owner’s manual but the Kirby has a dial on the front of the machine and you needs to dial the belt off of the fan pulley counter clock wise and to check to see if the Kirby bell housing will release @ the top so that you can remove the bell housing. If not then remove the bottom plate and take out the brushroll on one side and then slide the belt off of the brushroll. Then you can slide the new belt onto the brushroll to the center and then re-insert the Kirby brushroll with the screw heads facing downward then you can replace the bottom plate – then use the Kirby spoon or hook to dial the belt onto the fan pulley clock wise. Once that is done then plug in the Kirby and try to vacuum to see if the Kirby is picking up properly, if not repeat the process. take the cover off to get to the wiring and check the brushes - that is where the clear-insulated black & green wires terminate at the motor sides under the plastic caps
Here is a online guide....it's for the G series Kirbys. They're similar enough that it should help. Pay special attention to the belt lifting process...it's exactly the same as for the Heritage II, and it's also where I think your problem lies. I have a Heritage II manual available too! Hope I have helped...
