Your device is too full.

The device needs 8MB of free space to create the database or menu.

Connect the device to your computer, go to My Computer>Device Name (m240)>Open the device and manually delete some songs, 10 should suffice.

Disconnect the device and re-start it.

Your device should function as normal.

Best of Luck.

    its new, or refurbished?

If its refurbished there may be music left on it.

Change the mode on the device. Settings>Mode or USB>MSC or AUTO DETECT.

Change it to the other mode that is not highlighted, then look for music.

If thats not it, you can try formatting the device, there may be something on there you cant see.

My Computer>Device name (m240)>Right Click and select format.

    Best of Luck.

    Ok, understood.

Try connecting it to your PC without the batteries.

If it shows up, format it.

There are files on it, that is why you are getting the error.

If that doesnt work, return it to the store.

    Best of Luck.

Cant delete songs from sansa m240. tried the most common solutions.

Try this way...Deleting Files,Pictures,Videos,Audio
Books, Apps,etc. from MP3 Player/Ipod
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hook up your mp3 player to your computer
Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer"
When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there.
Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible.
Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release,
right click and then click on "Delete"
Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want.
BE CAREFUL and do not delete files needed to operate your MP3 player.

Sansa m230

The Music DB refers to the Music Database, or the Artist, Album, and Song info.

The error means your device is too full. It needs some free space on the device to create this information.

Connect your device to the PC and manually delete some files from it in My Computer>Device Name (m240)>MUSIC Folder.

It needs 6MB of free space, so you may need to delete several songs.

Disconnect the device from the PC, it should restart and you should be ok. If the message continues, keep deleting files until its gone,

Best of Luck.

Wheres the music?

Put the player in MSC mode
Plug in
go to My Comp
go to tools
go to folder options
choose view tab, then choose SHOW HIDDEN FILES and hit apply
once you choose OK you should see the folder Music,
open and delete at will like you would any file: highlight, rightclick, delete.
You can also format in MSC mode by rightclicking on player in My Comp and choosing Format
