Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

Calypso behaving badly

My Calypso GVW9959KQ2  seems to be having problems moving between cycle steps.  Hanging up at around 27 mins remaining during rinse cycle.  Sometimes giving a long drain fault code.  I have taken it apart, checked for blockages, removed drain hose and flushed it out.  I haven't been able to find anything plugged, so I ordered a new pump.  After installing the new pump, the machine is acting exactly the same.  I'm guessing maybe it's something to do with one of the boards, but am hesitant to spend more money on this thing without being a little more positive if I'm on the right track.  Please help.

Thanks very much for your help.  You even correctly identified the debris that was causing the problem!  Thanks again!

ALL WASHERS HAVE A LOADING DOOR SAFTEY SWITCH ... THEY ARE THER TO PREVENT CHILDREN FROM STICKING THERE HAND IN THERE WHEN THE WASHER IS IN THE AGITATING OR SPIN CYCLE.

WHEN THEY GO BAD OR STICK, THE WASHER WILL FILL AND THATS ALL ... THESE SWITCHES ARE USUALLY INEXPENSIVE BUT CAN BE A REAL PAIN WHEN THEY GO BAD.

START THE WASHER WITHOUT CLOTHES IN IT AND LET IT FILL ... OPEN THE LOADING DOOR AND SEE IF YOU SEE A SMALL HOLE AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE LID OF THE WASHER ... NOT ON THE DOOR.

IF YOU FIND IT ... TRY STICKING A SMALL UNBREAKABLE OBJECT THAT WIIL FIT INTO THE HOLE.

MAKE SURE YOU WILL NOT LOSE GRIP OF THIS OBJECT FAND HAVE IT FALL INTO THE HOLE.

THEN GENTLY PUSH DOWN ON THE SWITCH BELOW A COUPLE OF TIMES AND SEE IF IT WILL BEGIN TO AGITATE ...

SOME NEWER MODELS HAVE THE SAETY SWITCH BUILT INTO THE HINGE ON THE DOOR.

THESE SWITCHES ARE NOT EXPENSIVE SO DONT GET RIPPED OFF.

Did you remove the tub ring and wash plate?  A lot of times there will be lint and other foreign objects lodged in the drain opening between the tub and the pump.  You have to remove the wash plate in order to get to it, however.  The most common item found are the wire hoops from under support bras.  The wire make it's way between the tub and basket and gets lodged in the drain line.  Eventually lint and debris starts to collect and you end up with a long drain error.  Post back with comments and let me know if you've already done this.  If not, it might be worth the effort to take a look.  If you need instructions on how to get the tub ring and wash plate out, let me know.

Glad I could be of assistance.  I've seen this problem before.  Just remember what to look for if the same symptoms reappear.  Good luck to you.

Whirlpool Calypso Washer Mdl#30942 gets stuck during rinse cycle. Machine runs, then stops, but does not rinse completely. Last 35-38 min cycle is problematic. What is wrong and how to fix it?

It's hard to tell by your description of the problem, but it sounds like it could be the timer If it's not running while in spin mode, or as simple as a belt if it's running and not spinning fast enough.

You may have the same problem I had: An item of clothing (in my case no pun intended there was a king sized silk pillowcase under the agitator and wrapped around the shaft. I removed the outter agitator and raised up the basket to wiggle out the pillowcase. She spins wonderfull now. I wrote 2 tips and included a manual and photos of the repair:

HERE

and HERE
I did 2 with the idea FY would remove one of them but I guess they like em both LOL

Control board malfunctioning.

You can try tripping the breaker a half dozen times or so, or else leave it unplugged/without power for a couple days. Once it is plugged back in you may have to leave it overnight and then try it, but that almost always revives it. I notice the problem when I don't use the washer/dryer once a week or don't push any buttons during that time to activate it in some way. Problem seems to occur more frequently in the winter when house is cooler.

Whirlpool Calypso Mod: GVW9959KQ2, stops and shows "ob" as code for fast final spin. Also making high pitched whine during wash cycle. Appl svce place has suggested bearing or xmission. Any possible...

Sorry to say but they are right. The Calypso washer was a horible design given to whirlpool from maytag. I would suggest you go buy new machine. Buy someting that looks simple and easy to use. The more complicated the unit the more problems you will have down the road.

Loud dry sounding spin cycle

cabrio and calypso have some issues with either main bearing problems or brake drive issues, either or this is an expensive fix, so if you have an extended wty, call your service provider, if not, just replace it, repair most likely in excess of 600.

Water Leaking From Calypso, Won't Drain Completely

the bag type device is an overflow and should never have "water"in it, but it will get suds if you are using the wrong type of soap.
you need to use "HE" soap as it is a non-sudsing soap and thats why you are getting suds leaking from your unit.
just run the rinse and spin cycle until the suds are gone. then use the right type of soap and it will work properly with no leaks.
