SOURCE: My Samsung SyncMaster 2463UW no longer auto
OK UncleBob...Try this for me..does hitting the menu button on the monitor do anything for you?..NO huh...Do any of the other buttons (besides power) do anything for you?..Probably not?! Your in the early stages of my fixed problem...Is your warranty still good?lol I had to throw that one in....So ....
Power button is flashing.. input box is floating around and changing input signals...well first
try another monitor on your computer. The other monitor works huh?!
I just did this to a friends monitor as well as my own, a different model and not much different in build. Some might have 3 screws on the lower back side of the cover. If not then proceed to How to open a Samsung SyncMaster 2053bw.. Start your separation from the bottom of the frame.Your power switch will remain on the front frame while the wire will remain with the rest.
HOW TO OPEN A SYNCMASTER 2053BW
NO SCREWS!!! Assuming that the stand mount has been pulled out..The seam around the screen frame is where you start. The frame has the prongs, the back cover has what the prongs slip over. The frame is coming off first! I got the side to open by finger, then used a small standard screwdriver to pry ever so gently(lifting frame from rearcover). Leave the power button assembly on the frame, pull wire only a little to relax any tension..you get about 3/4" in extra taped to panel. The hard part is done.;) Still holding the frame...Now lift the panel (where the power button assembly wiring goes under panel) with the power housing that is under it as a whole and you will see where the powerbuttonassemble detaches.Remove frame. Now..holding edges of panel into back cover, lift and flip the whole thing over and place panel face down on a perfectly flat surface..a towel on my desk works. Lift and remove back cover.Your now looking at the back of the board housing. The ribon is simple, on the panel end of the ribon, squeez the outer clips together and slide it away against the panel..The secondary tin plate is removable(if you need to remove it), two clips super close to where the sets of wires come around the housing and into the panel. Unhook the 4 plugs(blues and pinks)...Now lift the power housing off of the panel. The big board has the power. One screw to remove a ground plate first. Two screws to remove power board. Pics from phone.
The capacitors top-plain should be flat(not rounded) and there should be no color whatsoever coming through the top of the cap lines(google "bad capacitors"). The specs of the cap are on the cap. Markings on the cap and board show how it is installed. The 2 caps cost me $4.00. Now keep in mind there are hazards to this.Google them;)

A computer monitor is not truly designed for the purpose you have in mind
As far as the VGA connector is concerned it is still meant for connection to a COMPUTER
The same for the HDMI.
We are seeing this problem more and more as people look at the price rather than its intended use.
A TV is a TV.
Yes you can hook up some external components as you have done but the only way i have seen it work is by the following and is not 100% guaranteed to work in all situations.
Turn off the device you no longer wish to watch using the remote
Turn off the monitor
Turn on the device you wish to watch using its remote
Turn on the monitor.
The only reason that method works at all is that some monitors auto detect which input actually has a signal on it.
You can buy switching boxes also if you don't mind adding to the amount of cables etc. Remote switches may cost quite a bit more than a manual one.
This is the ONLY answer I can give you. Your monitor does not have a remote and the reason for that is that it is not a TV.

You need to adjust the monitor refresh rate to 60 Hertz or 70 Hertz.
Use the CRT first to adjust it, then after adjust, plug in your Sync Master to see is it perfect or not, find the best frequency that work best.
To adjust it,right click on the screen, enter properties, then click setting tab.
Then in advanced tab, click it then you see the monitor tab, find the perfect screen refresh rate.

This problem often occurs in samsung SyncMaster LCD monitors.
The
solution is open your look for the LCD monitor power supply module
(which have PCB connector to the AC power), on that board look for
capacitors, now look for broken one which upper part is bloated, like
the image below:
If you find a damaged capacitor as in the picture then you should replace it with the same value.

m_r_murphy, The T220 may have developed an internal ac to dc "switch-mode-power-supply / CCFL inverter supply" power problem an you may need to need to have it repaired, Look into warranty or outside technician to refurbish the unit's SMPS/inverter!!! From your description, I believe that the SMPS is in "partial shutdown" mode!!! (no 12 to 14v dc) to power-up the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" that enable you to see the text and graphics that you already know are being displayed on your lcd panel!!! (+5vdc or 3.3vdc rail still alive!!!) You have "black screen" symptom!!! NOT BLANK n BLACK screen!!! There are lots of DIY videos on YOUTUBE to help you decide if you can attempt a cheap (<$20usd) repair to your unit. Do some reading in my old fixya profile (louie12fix) and visit some of the links you find there. Because your T220 isn't any different than any other brand of CCFL back-lit lcd display in it's basic design and operation you should be able to fix it. Get back to me lmistyrel on aim or do additional comment to this original post here on fixya with info on your next step to repair this unit.
All the other ccfl back-lit lcd monitor tech's on fixya already know what's wrong inside your unit!! Do your research first!! Bye for now, 12fixlouie
