Whirlpool Calypso washer (model #gvw9959kl2) selector buttons

I just had the repairman out to unplug the pump and now all of the control buttons seem to be locked.  Everything is lit up across the middle setting and 42 minutes shows in the display window but nothing i push will change the settings and the start button does nothing.  When i unplug the unit and plug it back in everything is dark until i hit any button.  Then everything lights up across the middle again and the 42 is in the window.  Does this machine have a reset of some kind?  It looks like i tilted my pinball machine.

Afraid to say that there is no reset on these washers, and the problem is probably the touch pad board in the console has gone bad.  Usually not a cheap repair.  The part is usually between $200.00 and $350.00 depending on what part of the country you live in.  Hope this helps you, but that sure seems to be the problem.  Let me know if you need further information.  Good Luck!!!!!!    Jim

Whirlpool calypso top load washer stuck on FL

Fl means flood
you either have a bad flood switch or something is in the pump.
the pump is located under the washer
if you where to tip back and remove the 3 5/16 inch screws and look to the very right you will see the pump.
it could be these 2 things and or it could be something in your sump balls. which you would need special tools to gain access to.
let me know if this helps

I have a calypso washer it seems to be stuck on the ultra hand wash. the only button that does anythinbg is stop. i have unplugged it time and again, but nothing changes

keep it unplugged for at least a half hour -- if nothing solves it you probably need a new board. Ours is going the sidewalk on junk day because of this. Have had it 7 years and more than a dozen service calls on it. Have had the board replaced 2x and the pump 4x -- other calls were techs trying to figure it all out. Garbage machine.

My Calypso washing machine doesn't allow you to select start. It is an intermittent problem which seems to clear itself after a couple of hours. How do I fix it?

Washer turns on by itself. (Once in the middle of the night)

i have the whirlpool top loader also. Was not quiet a year old, starts running at random by itself. They sent the repair man out got lectured that it was my fault (too much soap, washer is in basement, I need to call an electrician to check the wiring). Now it drips water into the inside of the washer.
I can see it will eventually be cheaper to replace than call the repairman back.... Won't be a Whirlpool

Calypso Leaking

try replacing the drain hose where it connects to the pump? perhaps the pump itself had something caught up in it, i own one of these machines as of a few days ago and i aquired it with it not draining, after i cleaned up the pump and put it back, all is good... check your pump assembly if possible or run it thru with the front panel off to see where the leak is coming from.. directions are avaliable under the owner center on whirlpool.com just enter your model # in and look for a parts diagram of the cabinet...
good luck..

Beeping and Frozen, 44 min

If it is a Calypso, abandon it immediately... it is amazing you still have it. One of the worst designs, ever. Whirlpool Washing Machine Drain Pump 285990 No Longer Available

Washer shows no signs of power

Yup, this is what happened to me. I also get a "44" error code and erroneous beeping. This is exactly what the class action law suit was about. The Whirlpool Calypso's of your type have the red LED and touch controls, right? They go bad internally after a few years, regardless of how much or how little you use them. There is nothing you can do. Order a new or reconditioned control panel, or have it serviced and repaired by a qualified company referred by Whirlpool Service... Don't do this yourself... The part is about $200 or so plus $60 to $80 minimum call out charge, and sometimes the new parts are as bad as the one you currently have. Best Bet... Time to upgrade to something newer. You may spend your money on this repair, yet in a few months, have the same thing again or something else go wrong. It's just not worth the repair.... Indy :)

Whirlpool Callypso Model #gvw9959kl2 Serial #cm3202070

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the "U-Joint", which was a fairly easy repair. The part comes as a kit, (It is probably very common), the cost I got from Sears was $112. With tax and a $44 overnight delivery charge, my total was $170. And while I had it apart, I also cleaned all the gunk out.

Washer stops in middle of cycle,

Junk it! Cut you losses now. I had a Calypso for 6 years and went through 3 pumps, various circuit boards , a drive motor ,etc..... not to mention the down time of not having a washer in a 4 person household. We bought a Whirlpool Duet HT 9200. Clean , fresh laundry not all balled up anymore. Junk it. You'll thank me.
