Hi. I have a GE GSS22SGPC SS side by side refrigerator and the refrigerator side is not working. The freezer is 10 below but my refrigerator is at 50 degrees or higher. I turned it off totally for a couple of days and turned it back on. Thru all of this I could hear a fan squeal for a while but now it is gone. Is this a fan problem? maybe a board problem? Where should I start?
Sounds like the fan went out.
Ok. I started taking it apart for the fan. The whole evaporator coil assembly is totally frosted up. I could see the fan turning though. Could this just be a sensor or the controller? How do I start to test these items?
And thank you for your previous answer.
The fan may be intermittant...also check to see if the damper is open from the freezer area to the refrigerator area. The thermostat on the refrigerator side controls the fan.

Pierce, there was a service bullitin put out on this model. TDR-0010A-B. Had to do with normal freezer, warm fresh food compartment. Maytag issued a kit that included a new thermostat and damper assy. to solve this problem. Bullitin came out in 2002. If you are not having a defrost issue and all fans are running normal, I would call Maytag and inquire about the above posted bullitin, It may be covered. Catriver...post back.

Did you clean the condenser? Is the unit FULLY defrosted? Defrost fully!!!!!!
Did he check the amount of gas in the unit? If your unit has low gas...it is in need of more. R12 is expensive.
Check gas level: Shut unit for at least one hour. View compressor. Several pipes...we're looking at the largest. Start the unit. This pipe will begin to frost. If it does not clear to dry, ice or wet...stays frosted...it is low. Get the repair guy back ... but ask how much he'll charge first.
SOURCE: Refrigerator does not maintain 37 degrees
i have seen this problem before
its the control board in the back the board is about 150 dollars
and it goes every DING DING 5 years lol
horrible design of the one that comes on the fridge every ge side by side has this problem
its very easy to replace but have to "ground" yourself before you touch the new control board meaning rub you hands on plumbing pipes, not pvc or copper
good luck if you got questoins let me know
SOURCE: freezer cools to 10 degrees, refrigerator cools to 50 degrees
check if the fan is working and you are circulating air efficiently. You may check on the coils at the freezer if there are ice formation. I would suggest to have the ice melted by unplugging it and ensuring that all parts are ice free. Clean the unit while at it.
