Tfx22pr temperature control

Freezer temp drops to 14, fridge drops to 31, both on medium settings, then compressor doesn't come on again unless I set switch thermostat to off and slide back to medium. Same cycle repeats.

  • Gregg Thomas Dec 08, 2013

A week of 0-10 deg highs this week, freezer warms up to 30 after about 12 hrs and fridge at about 39. I replaced defrost heater and defrost timer a few months back and that solved the freezer fine fridge too warm problem. This is different and prob noticed about 1-2 weeks ago when musty water smell started appearing. Foods were somewhat defrosted up high but bag of ice down low was fine. Compressor runs 30-40 mins at start of rest/cooldown cycle.

After a few more weeks, fridge seems to operate normally or a few degrees colder than based on it's setting. Freezer cools down to around 10 at it's lowest point. Seems to come on when needed. I am curious to know how low Freon leads to this cycle.

SOURCE: ge fridge GSS25LFGww, fridge part freezing food

Hi, Change the controls back to normal settings. Make sure the freezer is getting 0 to 5 above. If the freezer is getting cold enough, try and turn the cold control to 1 and see if the refrigerator shuts off. It sounds like the cold control in not working properly and will need to be replaced. NOTE: The freezer temp has to be right temp or the fresh food side will not work proper.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: GE TFX26KRDA WW 2001 side by side refrig/freezer w warm fridge

Cleaned the condenser coils which were dusty but not severely so. Checked the evaporator coils which were NOT iced. Reset the fridge to coldest setting and freezer to #5 (mid range of temperature) and waited a full 36 hours. Fridge temp is 40 F and freezer is about 0F. Not sure what is different except coldest setting on fridge. Warm weather is here but not warm enough to require AC. Temps in late afternoon in house about 77-80F. Any thoughts are appreciated because I suspect this problem is not completely resolved.

Is it dangerous if compressor runs continuously on Miele fridge freeezer combo? Setting freezer temp has no effect.

Not dangerous, but inefficient and wasteful and eventually the compressor will fail. Compressor should shut off when it reaches the set temperature. If not, then the thermostat (temperature setting) is not working or the compressor is not working, most likely because of low or no refrigerant (freon). Put a thermometer in the freezer and see what temp is. If it is near 0 degrees F, then it is the thermostat. If it doesn't read near low single digits, then it's the compressor.

Model #FGHC2331PF frigidaire. Controls were set for 35F fridge and 0F freezer, but when the fridge stopped the temps went up. They are now at 40F fridge and 5F freezer. Why?

Because nothing is perfect. As soon as the compressor stops running, the refrigerator will start to get warmer as the ambient temperatures will affect it. Then after a few degrees of temp rise, if thermostat is working properly, unit will kick on again to lower temps to preset level. And the cycle continues.

The temp says 14 and 8 but should be -21 and 3? Can anyone help

Controlling the Freezer temperature
The freezer temperature can be set between -14°C (8°F) and -25?C (-14°F) to suit your particular needs. Press the freezer button repeatedly until the desired temperature is shown in the temperature display. Keep in mind that foods like ice cream may melt at -16?C (4°F). The temperature display will move sequentially from -14°C (8°F) and -25?C (-14°F). When the display reaches -14?C (8°F), it will begin again at -25?C (-14°F). Five seconds after the new temperature is set the display will again show the actual current
freezer temperature. However, this number will change as the Freezer adjusts to the new temperature. The top and bottom guards in the freezer of this model are the two star sections, so the
temperature in two star sections are slightly higher than other freezer compartment.

Controlling the Fridge temperature
The refrigerator temperature can be set between 7?C (45°F) and 1?C (34°F) to suit your particular needs. Press the fridge button repeatedly until the desired temperature is shown in the
temperature display. The temperature control process for the Fridge works just like the Freezer process. Press the fridge button to set your desired temperature. After a few seconds, the Fridge will
begin tracking towards the newly set temperature. This will be reflected in the digital display. The temperature of the freezer or the refrigerator may rise from opening the doors too frequently, or if a large amount of warm or hot food is placed in either side. This may cause the digital display to blink. Once the freezer and refrigerator return to their normal set temperatures the blinking will stop.
If the blinking continues, you may need to "reset" the refrigerator. Try unplugging the appliance, wait about 10 minutes and then plug back in.

The refrigerator does not work at all or it does not chill sufficiently.
• Check that the power plug is properly connected.
• Is the temperature control on the display panel set to the correct
temperature? Try setting it to a lower temperature.
• Is the refrigerator in direct sunlight or located too near a heat source?
• Is the back of the refrigerator too close to the wall and therefore keeping air from circulating?

What is the ideal setting for fridge on Bosch KGN34VW20G

Hello John;

My name is Peter. I am a retired Sears service technician. The freezer temperature should be between -2 & + 2 degrees F. The fresh food section should be between 35-40 degree F.
Pick up a inexpensive temperature gauge with a steel shank. Place the temperature gauge in the freezer center. Do not make contact with any food product. Allow 20 minutes and read the gauge. Be quick the temperature on the gauge will drop quickly when you remove. Adjust the temperature control knob according until you reach the desired setting. Repeat this process as necessary. Do the same for the fresh food section.
You only have one source of cooling; the evaporator coil and fan in the freezer. The freezer will meet it's temperature setting first before it opens the fresh food section damper.
A balanced system will save on your electrical bills. The compressor will kick in only when demand is met. Your compressor should not be running continuously.

Fridge temperature too hot won't go down with temperature controls

This looks like there is a problem with thermstat in the fridge. We had a fridge that would not cool and we found it to be the thermastat problem. You have to replace the thermstat on the fridge. Not 100% sure but a high possibility.

Bought a brand new LG bottom freezer fridge a couple of months ago. I like the refridgerator part to be cold, so we keep the fridge temp on 6 (1-7 are temp choices. 7 being the coldest). We had the freezer...

If designed as most combination units, one of the two controls influences the temperature directly, the other only determines how much of the generated cold air is allowed to enter the other compartment. The typical arrangement is that setting the freezer temperature determines how often often the compressor runs; the other diverts a portion of the cold air into the refrigerator side.
Using the common thermometer for cold temperatures (~$5 US), adjust the freezer temperature for 0 to -5 degrees F (the often recommended temp.), then the other control for the desired refrigerator temperature, suggested as 35-45 F. This is the most common practice.
If you cannot balance them the way you want, reverse the procedure, setting for refrigerator temp., then freezer.

Freezer extremly cold, some frost on items. The fridge is also too cold, freezing food in the bottom crisper bin. Kenmore Elite side by side model # 5320902. We have the temperatures set higher to...

The compressor is cycled on/off by the fresh food temperature setting. The freezer setting controls a panel, or door if you will, that allows cold air to be blown into the freezer.

Since both compartments are getting too cold, the most likely culprit is the fresh food thermostat control, since it controls the compressor cycle. Try setting it to a higher setting, even if it's above normal. Use a manual thermometer to check the temperature of the fresh food compartment and compare it to the control setting. The readings should be the same or very nearly the same.

I assume your refrigerator is controlled by a solid state controller (i.e. a printed circuit board). Some of these allow for calibration of the thermostat to coincide with the actual temperature of the fresh food compartment. That would most likely have to be done by a service technician unless you have expertise in the field.

If calibration is not an option, if you can live with the thermostat setting not reflecting the actual temperature, a free fix is to simply set it higher than you actually want it to be, recognizing that the actual temperature is 'X' degrees lower than the thermostat setting.

The freezer compartment temperature will be similarly affected, and can be controlled by the freezer temp setting, which is actually nothing more than setting the position of the panel which allows or restricts air from being blown into the fresh food compartment from the freezer. Again, the compressor is cycled on and off by the thermostat in the FRESH FOOD compartment which gets its cold air from the freezer compartment.

Does outside temperature affect performance of freezer

Top mount refrigerator installed in a garage and the food in the freezer is defrosting when
the temperature in the garage goes below 55 degrees fahrenheit.
On top mount refrigerators you cycle the compressor and fan/fans from the food
compartment temperature. When the room temperature gets colder than 55 F, you have
long off times waiting for the food compartment to warm enough to trip the cold control.
This long off time is allowing the freezer temperature to get high enough that food can start
to defrost.
There is a kit for refrigerators installed in applications where the temperature can go as low
as 34 F and still maintain good freezer temperatures. The kit part number is 5303918301
and it contains a heater that mounts in the control box and an instruction sheet advising
how to install the heater.
Kit 5303918301 contains:
Part # 5303950194 Instruction sheet
Part # 241532101 Heater
