Tray is lock

Try inserting a pin through the hole beneath the pray. Push the eject button and then insert. If you can't find such a hole, push the eject button and tap hard on the top of the tray twice or thrice. If it is not still working, check for any loose connection.

A dvd is stuck in the drive. It resists all attempts at removal including the ''eject cd'' command in Open Firmware. Can I manually remove it?

The iMac (Slot loading) computer's disc eject mechanism is electrical instead of mechanical. To eject a CD-ROM disc at startup that contains system software, press the mouse button until the computer ejects the disc. If the disc does not contain system software, wait for the iMac to start up and drag the disc icon to the Trash.

If either of these steps fails to eject the disc, push the drive's manual eject button with a small, blunt object like a paper clip. This button is located to the right of the CD/DVD slot as shown in Figure 1. The computer must be turned on to eject a disc in this manner.

ht3007_1.gifFigure 1 Manual eject button

Once the disc is ejected, it extends just beyond its center hole so you can remove it from the drive. If the disc fails to eject, while holding in the paper clip, use another CD to gently push against the inserted CD. This gentle pressure may help to release the inserted CD.

Important: After ejecting the disc with the manual eject button, you must restart the iMac in order for the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive to work.

The disc tray of my Xbox 360 console does not open

If the tray does not open when you press the eject button, try to manually open it. To do this:
  1. Unplug your Xbox console from the power source.
  2. Locate the manual release button on your Xbox console.

For most Xbox consoles, the manual release button is located in a small pinhole to the left of the eject button under the disc tray.

For some Xbox consoles, the manual release button is located under the disc tray. It can be under the "O" or the "B" in the word "XBOX" that appears on the tray.
  3. Insert a straightened paper clip or other small tool in the hole at an angle to the left. Gently push the paper clip to try to press the manual release button and partially open the disc tray. This may take several tries. Typically, a thin paper clip works better than a thick paper clip.

If you insert the paperclip in the hole and find an obstacle, this indicates that your Xbox console's manual release button is located in a different area of the console. Look under the "O" or the "B" in the word "XBOX" that appears on the tray. If this is the case, insert the paperclip under the "O" as outlined in step C. If you find an obstacle, insert the paperclip under the letter "B”. The manual release button is located in one of these three locations.
  4. After the disc tray partially opens, pull the tray with your fingers to fully open the tray

My disk drive is stuck and won't open

Hello,

Try first a soft eject: Go to my computer, Point the CD-ROM drive, right click mouse button, and choose eject. If that dose not work, examine the face of the drive and look for a small pin hole. Insert a blunt paper clip in the pin hole and press gently. The drive should open.

Hope it helps.

The eject button on my VRDMC5 DVD recorder does not work at all.

When idsk is not recognized it is because the laser mechanism can no longer focus on the disk. If this happens with all disks then the unit is fubar and it is time to go shopping since repair is not cost effective.
