If you do not have the [change] key, press the [a b/c] key to change from decimal to mixed number. Press [2ndF] [a b/c] to convert to improper fraction.

Help! My Sharp EL-531x calculator is not calculating correctly.

First subtract the 106 from the 240, then divide by 800. You need a parenthesis around the first two numbers, then it will work.

EL 531x - can't find a manual online, and I can't work out how to put an answer in the memory and then re-use it. Please help! Thank you!

If you insist on finding the exact model number in the title of the manual it is possible your quest will be fruitless. Just take any manual for an EL-531 and you will get lucky. Besides, most calculators of the same manufacturer perform operations the same way.
Anyway, here is a screen grab to solve your problem.

You need a SHARP with Write-View display capabilities. The EL-531X is unable to show that. The Write-View calculators from Shard have a W, example EL-W516 followed by Write-View. Not to be confused with the W in EL-520W

How to I stop my sharp EL-531X calculator from rounding when converting from decimal to scientific notation?

You need to select the number of decimal places you would like, or if you would like the calculator to behave as normal. Press SET UP and select FSE (press 1) . You now have 5 options.
0: FIX means you can choose a fixed number of decimal places for every calculation.
1: SCI means scientific notation and choose the number of significant values you would like to deal with.
2: ENG means engineering and the power goes up in multiples of 3.
3: NORM1 and 4: NORM2 are the usual or normal settings on the calculator. Most school calculations will use NORM1 mode.
