Question about Reddy Heater RLP100 Portable Forced Air Propane Heater with Variable Heat Ouput

1 Answer

Reddy heater r60

Starts up, but won't stay running for very long.  smells strong and lets out smoke sometimes.  it also runs longer with the top off.  with top on it only runs for a second or two.

With the top off see if there is an obstruction between the fan and the back of the heater chamber.  also mounted on the backside of the combustion chamber is a hi limit with two wires coming out of it.  this connects to the flame detector which is in the flame path.  it is a copper cappillary with two spade connectors on it.  once a flame is detected, it generates a millivolt signal that opens and maintains the main gas valve. reddy heater r60 - 01e527f.jpg

There are any number possibilities for intermittent running.
1. Bad ground connection at the Ignition Device (transformer, spark box)
2. restricted fuel filter causing fuel starvation
3. crack in the plastic end cover
4. crack in the airline
5. crack in the fuel line
6. crack in the nozzle adapter
7. water in the fuel
8. Others I’m sure I left out
