Digital coin operated washer stuck on hot water

I try to push the cold and warm flat buttons but the machine only displays and runs with hot water only for initial wash cycle. I flipped over the front access but I was nervous about ruining the electrical circuit board. I thought maybe the area you push down onto the electric tape was maybe stuck. should I try to still access the underside of these flat buttons or possible a bigger problem exists? please help.

SOURCE: whirlpool front loader washing machine

I would recommend you replace the water inlet valve. This is the only device between the fill hoses and the dispenser that controls the flow of water. The "hissing" noise you hear could be a defective solenoid in the valve that is staying open and allowing water to flow. Try turning the water off at the tap to see if the sound goes away. If it does...water inlet valve. Another tale-tell sign of an inlet valve leaking would be a small trickle of water running down the dispenser tube in the rubber door boot. Over a period of time, the tub will begin to fill and possibly overflow (even with the washer turned off).

You can find a replacement valve at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Dispenser Parts" heading for item number 1 (part #8181694).

Replacing the valve is simple. Just follow these steps:

1. Unplug washer, turn off water supply and remove hoses from the back of the washer.
2. Remove the top panel by removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.
3. The water inlet valve will be located at the left rear of the washer (as viewed from the front).
4. Remove the dispenser hose, electrical connections and mounting screws and the valve is removed.
5. Install new valve by following these steps in reverse order. NOTE: When reinstalling top panel, make sure you lay panel on top of washer, leaving a couple of inches of room from the front panel. Then, slide panel towards you (front of washer) so that the top panel slides into the mounting clips.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you still require assistance, or if you feel I'm wrong in my assessment, please post back and let me know.

SOURCE: Washer will won't run cold water cycle

Some washing machines allow cold water to enter only during certain cycles. Others intermittently allow hot and cold to enter, to temper the temperature of the water. Consult your owner's manual if you are unsure about whether the machine is acting abnormally.

If you're sure the machine is not working the way it used to--or should--check the following.

  • Is the cold water turned on? If not, turn it on.

  • Is the washer getting hot water but no cold water? If so, check to see if the control panel settings are correct.

  • Is there cold water coming through the proper hose? If not, check to see if the screen inside the water-inlet valve is clean. (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If it's clean, you probably have a defective water-inlet valve. If so, you need to replace the valve.

  • Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. – I would greatly appreciate a FixYa! rating if the solution I provided fixed or helped you fix your problem.

My ge front load washer the water constantly runs even when machine shuts off

Is it HOT! Or is It COLD? Either way your water inlet valves are solenoids. And they get stuck cause they are magnets. So you need to replace both or just the one that feels HOT...Or COLD! The Price is Huge! Hot valves are cheap because they only let in Hot water. It is the COLD one that are expensive for all the Warm, Cool, and 21 other water settings!!!

The temperature of the incoming water determines the temperature of the water in your washer. You get either hot, cold, or a mix of the hot and cold water that's currently available to the machine. So if the cold water that enters the machine is very cold--or if the hot water entering the machine is very hot--the warm water is affected.

If you live in a Northern climate, unless you adjust the hot and cold water taps that supply water to your washer, the warm water supplied to your washer is usually hotter during the summer months and colder during the winter months.
