Trying to install software on PPC via activeSync. Sync ok and can transfer files and stuff to SD card but when I try and install software it will only allow it on the Main memory, the ipaq file store and SD card both show unavailable. software will work on main memory but its not the location I need it to reside on, the SD card is where I need it.
Thanks wormy22, I do appreciate your advice, any different view on a proble may prove to work. so far those items haven't. my next step is to do a full hard reset and then use activesync but pick guest so as to not sync to the pda, it may allow me to xfer the software on the sd chip instead of the main memory area. Is there any way to upgrade this HP Ipaq 3715 to win mobile 5. when you upgarde the OS on a PDA does it have to be provided by the manufacture ie HP for HP etc. Or will any windows mobile 5 cd work? like from Microsoft?? insted of from HP. or are they specific to no only the brand but exact model??
Sorry phildb, don't mean to question your knowledge just wanted to start with the basics and rule out some things. A few more things I can think of but you've also probably already thought of though. Make sure the SD card isn't locked but I bet you've already tried writing and reading data on the card. Are you using active snyc for installation? Unfortunately I'm mostly familiar with ipaqs. Hope you can get this issue solved.Sorry phildb, don't mean to question your knowledge just wanted to start with the basics and rule out some things. Hi. While holding power button, and pressing reset will do a hard reset to your PDA (reset the device to its factory default settings). So if your PDA is working well, don't do it. As for the syncronization with your Vista PC; Winodws XP uses the ActiveSync software for syncronization, and for Windows Vista, Microsoft developed a brand new syncronization software called "Windows Mobile Device Center". It can be downloaded here: (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx). When you download/install this software to your PC, you should be able to connect your PDA to your PC without any problem, and definitely without changing any OS in your PDA or PC. Hope this helps.
you are now using outlook 2003 , probably cache , this means all the email is on your laptop. when you sync it will sync all the email (thousands). initialise your ppc (back to factory default). set up the sync via usb cable. then sync via bluetooth . then you are fully sync. now setup an auto backup of your email data (daily). if after some time , you have sync problem again , initialise the ppc, restore from backup and you are back to sync (last full backup). try this , you will never need to do it all again. Regards David Ng
Set it up with what? Do you mean sync with your computer? Are you using USB or Bluetooth?
Best thing to do.
1. Unplug your USB connection from PPC -> Computer 2. Uninstall Activesync if you have it installed 3. Restart your computer 4. Re-install activesync 5. Restart your PPC 6. When asked to connect the PPC connect it via USB
attach pocket pc via activesync, click download, click "start download" if necessary, and then run the downloaded application. Activesync will do the rest.
If you have only flashed the English ROM, not any other language ROMs, read the following paragraphs. If you have flashed other language ROMs but not the German one try flashing the German one instead, there is something about it that clears the ppc out better. If you have flashed the German one, do not read on, as it will be an insult to your intelligence.
Most problems can be fixed with a ROM correction. Unfortunately, this is unachievable by simple re-flashing the English ROM. Certain other versions of the ROM (usually German is used) contain different enough sets of code (possibly different firmware?) to force the ppc to truly reset, unlike what happens when simply flashing the US ROM or changing to ROMS that use similar enough coding. Try flashing the German ROM and THEN reverting to the English. This tends to solve most any major iPaq issue.
So if you sync your old one to OUTLOOK on your PC, I would simply install the new Activesync and create a new partnership for your Ipaq and the data should be transferred.
Yes , the Activesync connection is not reliable for large files. You really would be best to get a USB card reader, also it would be MUCH, MUCH faster.
When you attach your ipaq, you should be able to go into My Computer and view the ipaq as a removable storage device, seeing the actual files and folders located on your ipaq. I would attempt to transfer the files via copy and past if Activesync cannot do it. If that solves the problem then its simply that Activesync is encountering some sort of memory overflow, if it still cannot sync then there is a problem with transfer protocol its using.
For data files, you navigate to them with File Explorer, tap and hold on their names, a pop up appears. Choose Move to, and then you'll be asked for a location. But data files probably should be moved to a storage card, rather than the File Store.
As for programs, it's risky just to move them from one location to another. The safer course is to Remove them (Settings -- System -- Remove Programs) and re-install them to the new location. When installing via ActiveSync, when the installer asks: "Install to default location," answer No, and you'll get a menu asking where. Choose File Store from the drop down.
Good luck.
