Scans Black When I'm sending something or copying it comes out all black. But when I receive from other people it comes out fine. So I'm guesssing that it scans black. I cleaned it already. Not sure what it's isssue is.
The optical lamps aren't turning on. Check all connections inside for the optics. Most likely the LED bar has blown and the only solution would be replacement.

If printing is ok there're two things that could cause that defect when scanning/ copying:
-. If printer model has both ADF and cam glass and problem only occurs when using the ADF then you should check the ADF glass for something obstructing light path (tipex or other type of dirt) -. If the printer only has cam for scanning then the problem is on the sensor itself (the "bar" that moves when you scan something inside the scanner). It's not usual that dirt enters the sensor as It's pretty hermetic so I would think that the sensor is damaged and will need to be replaced.
The received fax is clean but when you send one out it has a black streak on it. Cool! So far so good. Makes sense because for sending, the fax scans the original document and parts of the scanning area could be dirty and so on. Therefore a black streak may appear. The same black streak would also appear when you make a copy, because the original document must also be scanned. Logical!
However for receiving faxes, the machine uses the internal memory and the print engine only, and the same applies to printing the transaction report, which comes from inside via the print engine. The scanner has no rol in either situation.
If you lift up the top, like you are clearing a jammed original, you should see a piece of glass across the machine. Look for something on the glass, usually white-out, and clean it. Test by making a copy. If copy is ok, then you fixed the problem.
Scanner Failure. Make a copy on your machine. If it comes out black as well this means your scanner, the part that lights up and "scans" your document before sending it out has gone bad. Either the led's are not lighting up or the scanner board itself is bad. In any case the cost of repair is greater than the cost to replace these machines. You can buy a brand new plain paper fax these days for less than $100.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
Your image scanner is bad. Try making a copy....if it comes out black but your incoming faxes are fine then your image scanner is bad. You can also print a report from the machine and it should come out fine.
The image scanner is the part that scans your originals before faxing them out or making a copy. There is a light bar that lights up when scanning. Either that light bar(l.e.d. array) has gone bad or the scanner itself is bad. If this is the case it is probably going to cost more to fix than the machine is worth. You could buy a new machine for what it would cost to fix.

Something is jammed in or covering the optics.
Check the area where the original document is placed for faxing.
Open this area and clean any liquid paper, sticky tape or staples covering the optics.
Test by making a copy. When the black line on a copy goes away the unit is fixed.
If the receiver is still getting this black line then it is probably their machine and not yours.
Send a fax to this number. 1300 368 999 It will send you back a copy of what it receives.
do a quick check on 2 things. - Copy a document(put a printed page on document feeder and press Copy button) , has the Copy come ok? if copy is also blank that means toner/ink problem, needs to be replaced.
- check with your Fax receive Print settings. is any setting of econo mode/ contrast/brightness Off the track? If found any of such issue then Reset it or put it on average (middle).
Something is blocking part of your scanner light, or scanner light may be bad. Check if the scanner light comes on, and check inside the original feeder and machine for a scrap of paper blocking the scanner light to the imaging drum.
