Does a Honeywell RTH6580WF thermostat work with this heat pump?

  • Garth Loga
    Garth Loga Dec 07, 2013

Currently it has a totaline P474-1050 with six wires. R=Red, G=Green, Y1=Yellow, W2=White, W1=Orange, and C=Black. When I hooked up the Honeywell all that worked was the fan.

You need to program with installation instructions. Press fan & up button @ the same time for a few seconds & go through the installer menu that comes with the thermostat to set it up for heat pump.

Assumed all the wiring are correct,

to change from manual switching from heat to cool, press [system] button ( left ) to go into system setting.

then press and hold the [fan] middle button untill option display 120

use up down button to select option 300 ( Manual/Autochangeover) ,

select 0 for manual, 1 for automatic. ( read caution in page 22 of installation manual )

Good luck

SOURCE: Heat pump -> installing digital thermostat.

sounds like the thermostat is not energizing the reversing solenoid , unless you have some experience with electrics i recommend that you call a trades person, to check this problem a multi meter is required and requires the user to know how to work with power , please do not attempt it yourself ...

I have a Honeywell RTH6580WF Wi-Fi Thermostat that has "Cool On" or "Heat On" flashing in an endless loop. Could there be a major issue?

Pull the power red wire off the thermostat and batteries out if it has battery backup, then reinstall...much like a computer restart. If this doesn't work, then replace your thermostat.

I want to replace a Honeywell Q674L with a Honeywell RTH6580WF for my heat pump. Which wire is the common or C wire?

The old mercury Q674's didn't require a common terminal, so if there's not an extra wire in the bundle you'll have to fish one up... Inside the old Trane, there should be either a terminal strip with the appropriate terminal designations or possibly a bundle of color coded wires. If they are wires, originally they may have had individual tags on them, but if there are none, you're going to have to refer to the wiring diagram for the correct color for transformer common. Or... find the secondary of the transformer to determine the correct one, then extend it up to the new digital stat.

Can't set clock

Hello Dan, I found this online and thought you may be interested in taking a look at it. Here's the website address and hope it's informational. http://yourhome.honeywell.com/home/Products/Thermostats/7-Day-Programmable/RTH6580WF.htm

If this doesn't solve the problem, you might have a defective thermostat.

RTH6580WF how do i reset to factory default?

It is actually an extensive process to reset or reconnect with a new wifi setup. To try to explain it would probably be confusing and couldn't give you step by step. Here is the link to the installation instructions that explain it perfectly and visually, https://customer.honeywell.com/resources/techlit/TechLitDocuments/69-0000s/69-2718EF.pdf
Hope this helps!

Honeywell thermostat RTH6580WF heat is ok but a/c doesnt cool

Same problem here. Gas, hot air furnace with A/C. Fan works with heat, but not A/C. Furnace is old, and I had to move the G wire to C at the furnace, plus install a jumper from Y to G.
