Unclear when stated that there is a governor issue? I assume you have a Robin/Subaru 7.5 H.P. engine model EY280YD2510 with erratic behavior leading up to stalling out when a load is applied or the generator is at no load status after several minutes of run time?. Couple of things to check would be starting with the fuel system. Is there stale gas in the fuel tank? Have you verified fuel flow from tank? Is the fuel cutoff valve free of debris? Is the carb fuel bowel been removed and inspected for varnish? Is the air cleaner clean? Next, Ignition system. Have you inspected the flywheel for excessive rust? Have you reset the air gap on the ignition module? Does the on/off switch work (measured with a meter for continuity?) Any visual signs of damage with all wiring or the ignition module itself? I once thought I had an governor issue where the issue ended up being that the flywheel was corroded to the point that once the engine was fully warmed up the control module would contact the rust build up on the flywheel causing engine surges no matter what the load was on the generator, and at times would stall the engine. Clean flywheel off if necessary and reset the air gap on the ignition module. If that fails then inspect the governor spring (the top spring on the carb. linkage assembly) for excessive rust that will change the tension on the governor arm.Replace if in doubt! When doing all this inspecting ensure you have fresh fuel, oil, air filter, spark plug gapped correctly, and ignition module that has been tested as sound! These Robin engines are smooth running heavy duty engine that will perform for many years if taken care of. Good luck!

I have a Nikota 6.5 hp 3500 generator that runs wide open unless I hold the governor back to idle. Governor will not adjust automatically. I’ve seen older post talking about idle control solenoid. I don’t...

It is normal for a spring to fully open the throttle on a governed engine but as the engine speed rises the governor should close the throttle to maintain a predetermined speed - clearly the governor isn't working.

There are two types of governor - the basic type is a moveable air vane placed inside the cooling air jacket to catch the draught from the fan. These are prone to sticking or breaking, especially the plastic ones.

The governor used on more expensive engines is inside the engine crankcase with a shaft protruding onto which a lever is bolted. A set of centrifugal weights inside controls the lever position.

You should be able to identify which type you have - if it is the airvane type you should be able to diagnose the trouble and fix it but the centrifugal type will need the engine dismantling to repair.

Idle solenoid means different things to different people - I am guessing it could be a device that forces the engine to idle when there is no load on the generator saving noise and fuel but if your engine has one it won't be the cause of your trouble as you have already demonstrated the throttle isn't binding on anything and identified the governor isn't working.

Locate and change engine governor kohler 18 hp courage engine

To access the governor you need to remove the flywheel, undo all the closure plate bolts and remove the crankcase closure plate, all this can be done with the engine still on the tractor, the governor is a plastic gear with centrifugal weights driven via a gear on the crank, it works against an arm that runs through the side of the crankcase and connects to a lever that then goes to the carb, to reset the lever, slacken the locking screw, push the governor lever fully over so as to open the throttle fully, now with a pair of pliers rotate the centre shaft fully in the same direction as you have pushed the governor lever, then tighten the locking screw

Homelite generator will not stop accelerating

If the gen. worked previously and has been setting, it is possible the carb. is gummed up with varnish or there is something interfering with the governor that's built internally in the engine. Check the governor linkage for anything interfering, i.e. damaged, mud dobber nest around the shaft coming out of engine block, etc. The arm and linkage is connected to the carb. and should be somewhat free moving with slight resistance from the springs. Hope this helps some

Subaru rgx3600 generator only producing 5volts

Sir take out the stator assembly from the engine and clean it properly from inside with cotten cloth moist with gasoline and then clean the roter while fixing it back mind the gap between the rotor and stator sometimes there is dirt or other material sucked inside the alternator which diaturbs the megnetic poles as a result the stator does not produce enough charge for exsitation

I have a 6.5 B&S engine on a RYOBI lawn mower That will not come up to mowing RPM. the mower does not have a throttle cable and the spring on the throttle appear to be intach. The engine starts real...

Normally when you move the throttle control on the handle, all that is happening is that governor spring tension is increasing or decreasing pull on the linkage /governor arm. With engine off and plug wire removed, look for a small shaft coming out of the engine with an arm attached. Attached to the small arm will be linkage to the throttle on carb.. So when you move the throttle on the carb with your finger the arm moves also. There should be spring connected to opposite side of governor arm connected to throttle control at the handle or small lever or metal tab. When you incease pull on the spring, the engine will speed-up. Adjust as needed. Good luck

Governor does not seem to work

Sometimes the governor gear inside the engine breaks and you have to replace it. Did you try to adjust the governor by putting the throttle full and unloosen the screw on the governor arm and push the governor piece the same direction as the throttle opens and tighten the screw.

I have a 24HP V-Twin Briggs that i blew up. I found the parts i needed and rebuilt the beast. It starts and runs but i cant get it to throttle down. I split the case again and inspected the governor....

A big vavume leak and or the throttle blade doesn't close or it gone ( missing). the carb should close all the way ( you can't look thiugh it) with the linkage off you should be able to run it by hand with good results. if you can find out the correct way to put the springs on and just move things around or gat a look at one thats working right and you may see whats put together wrong on yours.

ENGINE OVER SPEEDS WHILE RUNNING

This is almost surely a problem with the governor, check it like this.
Have someone with a finger on the kill switch.
Watch the governor arm while starting the engine, if it does not move almost immediately after starting the engine it is broken.
This is not a simple repair as it involves taking the crankcase apart, you'll have to contact robin/subaru to get a parts list in order to get the right governor spool and weights.
For an experienced technician this is about a 2 hour repair task.

Hope this helped,
Carl
