Question about Canon PIXMA iP3500 Printer
My printer started printing a vertical 'band' about two thirds of the way across any photograph I print, no matter what size. I have done all the maintenance checks, cleaning, deep cleaning, print head alignment, roller cleaning and tray cleaning to no avail. I uninstalled the printer software and re installed it. I have just bought and installed a new print head and replaced all the inks. The results are as follows: On a document A4 size paper with 2cm borders all round, I printed 'The quick brown fox.' twice on each line in size 12 font, Times New Roman so that I could see any problems, as the typed lines repeated exactly under each other. I did this in black only, then black 6 lines, red 6 lines, black 6 lines, blue 6 lines, black 6 lines, yellow 6 lines, black 6 lines, green 5 lines and finally black 5 lines. On the black only sheet, line 9 looks slightly italic because the top line of each character is one 'pixel' to the right, line 20 has the bottom line of each character has an 'extra pixel' on the left, line 23 the top of each character is one pixel to the left, line 26 the taller characters T, k, b, j, l are one pixel to the right, line 34 the bottom line of each character is one pixel to the right, line 37 the top part of each character is one pixel to the right, line 48 the bottom part of each character is one pixel to the left and line 51 the top part of each character is one pixel to the left. In addition, the first 'dog' has a thickened stalk on the 'd' all the way down the page. On the sheet with colours, line 9 (red) the top part of each tall character T, k, b, f, j, l are one pixel to the right and in addition the second e is overprinted with another e one pixel to the right. Line 10 (red) the top part of each character is one pixel to the left on the first sentence, but the second sentence is OK. Line 11 (red) the top line of each character is one pixel to the right in the first sentence, the second sentence is OK. Line 12 (red) the bottom part of each character is one pixel to the right. This continues down the page affecting lines 13 (black), 21, 22, 23, 24 (blue), (35 yellow), 40 (black) 45, 46,and 47 (green) in similar patterns - the characters are one pixel out, either to the left or right. The problem started when a piece of paper got jammed in the printer. I could not remove it and put the printer off, hoping it would eject the paper. There was a noise as if the carriage was stuck. I lifted the lid and could see that it was stuck against the crumpled paper. I put the lid back down and after about 5 seconds, the carriage returned to the 'rest' position. I tried again to remove the paper and managed to ease it free via the bottom paper tray (not where the paper feeds into the rear tray). Can my printer be rescued? I am not sure what to do, as changing the print head was my last option. Is it a hardware issue? Regards Gentleman Jim
Hi it's Gill again. I've been looking around more on the net and I think the problem is our printers need new printheads which I'm told are spare parts easy to change. Hope this helps. Gill
