I just bought a sony vaio from a auction it has no os and doesnt seem to have a cd rom how can i either restore or install new os i do have sony restore disks
SOURCE: sony notebook, restore to factory settings without cd
You can get a recovery CD from one of the links below:
Sony VAIO System Restore Disks
PC Recovery Shop
Sony Vaio recovery Disk service repair manual
SOURCE: Can't restore factory intallations and settings: Vaio VGN-FE880E
Are you doing DESTRUCTIVE recoveries or are you doing NONDESTRUCTIVE recoveries? Try another hard drive in the machine and recover to that. Nondestructive recoveries replace the operating system without destroying the personal data. Its possible the original problem is propagating over to the recovered systems. Do a destructive recovery. Understand any data not backed up will be destroyed. Possible the original problem was a trojan virus.

Go into the BIOS of laptp and change the boot order like
hard disk
DVD
usb
etc.......
then save changes.exit
SOURCE: get error message "operating system not found"
Run diagnostics on the harddrive. if possible reseat the Hard drive, i.e take it out and put it back again. and then try installing the OS. remember you have to boot from the laptop to install OS. Hope you are doing it correctly

Hello,
Try connecting the drive to another pc with a usb adapter, create a partition and format it. Then put the drive back in the vaio and reinstall windows. This should fix the problem.
