You would have to have a mini-plug (headphone) to RCA cable and connect the headphone jack to one of the rca inputs on the receiver. Make sure that the volume on the laptop isn't turned up too loud, or you may over-drive the receiver amp and cause it to shut down.

SOURCE: Connecting a Yamaha VX7 Subwoofer on my Yamaha HTR 5730 AV Receiver

Hello srqwrk,

You can connect the VX7 to the 5730 using an RCA Y cable like the one shown in the picture below. You get your one connection for the receiver and 2 for the VX7. These are available at any electronics store. Remember that the cable should be long enough to go from the receiver to where subwoofer will be placed.
Hope this helps. Let me know.

SOURCE: No component video output

Hope this helps

The Yamaha HTR-6030 offers two types of video monitor output: Component and Composite. You may need to connect both types to your television as the HTR-6030 does not have composite to component video conversion. In other words, to view your VCR on your TV, you need to use the composite video monitor connection. However, for a DVD player or other source that has component video connections, use the component video monitor output to your TV. If your TV has both types, you simply switch between the two with your TV remote to access the proper video monitor output signal from the HTR-6030.

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: Is it possible to play my ipod nano through my Receiver?

If it doesn't have a jack made for plugging Mp3 players into it like the new car stereo's do than you just have to go buy an FM transmitter that is made for Mp3 players. It will play through one of your low FM frequency's on your receiver. You can generally pick one up for around $20

When using tuner both speakers work but when using turntable one speaker is very low?

ONLY one channel low with a turntable?

Are you using a self-preamlified TT or an outboard phono preamp, because the HTR has no facility for direct attachment of an old-school TT.

It could be a turntable problem if you have phono preamplification most likely. Swap the two channels to prove it or not.

Try another input.

Humming coming from the speakers

From all speakers?

How is the audio connected to the TV (be specific)?

Keep in mind that a TV is not generally an audio source as its programming always comes from something higher up the audio food chain than itself. Get the audio to your receiver from whatever THAT is, not the TV.

Htr 5730 is DEAD, no display, will not turn on...

Pull the top off the unit. Look where the AC enters on the inside, check the fuse. It's the only one on the unit. If it's blown replace, if not, the unit needs to go to service. Hope this helps
