I cannot acces internet through D-Link DSL502T router

When I try to access the internet, google will not open.  I have been in touch with my service provided, dodo, without success.  However, I found that if I enabled DMZ in the router, I can go online.  I have been told this leaves me open to viruses.  Is this true & if so, do you have any suggestions.  I have Norton 360 on my computer & my service provider says it could be causing the problem.  I have disabled the Norton firewall, but still cannopt access the internet.  Only when I enable DMZ can I go online.  Can you suggest anything please?

Looks like DHCP service was snot configured properly, you should define some range of IP addresses it will provide, like to for example - look for that settings on your D-Link and try to enter this. Then your PC net card setting should be set up to obtain IP address automatically. Moreover, see also this topic

What router are you using? You will probably need to open some ports.

How do I access the internet

hi chris.
If you want to access the internet at home, you'll need an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a router to connect to the ISP. ISPs often provide a router with their service. This means more than one computer or device in your house can use the broadband connection at the same time.

I cant get internet access past my d link

If you are connecting with an ethernet cable, try resetting the router to factory settings. Look for a little hole in the back of the unit just big enough for you to stick a pencil tip into it, and hold the recessed button in for 10 seconds. If it has worked in the past, and won't work now, even after resetting, it may be bad. Try removing the cable from the router and connect the computer directly to your modem. If you get internet acces by bypassing the router, and resetting it doesn't resolve the problem, you may need to replace it.

You are a bit confused with the various components required for Internet connections.
If you have a dial-up connection with an Internet Service Provider, all you do is connect your computer's modem port to the phone line and dial the phone number of your Internet Service provider.
If you are connected to the Internet Servise Provider by ADSL and have a combined ADSL router and modem then you connect the phone line to this router/modem. If the ADSL modem is separate component then the phone line is connected to the ADSL modem and this modem is connected to the router with a LAN cable and the computer is connected to the router with another LAN cable. If the route is wireless and the computer has a wireless card then you don't need a LAN cable between the router and the computer.
If you are connected to the Internet by ADSL, to secure your Internet connection and configure your computer so it can connect to the Internet, please follow my instruction - click on this link :-
