How to store phone numbers in the memory

Caller ID (CID) is a service available from your telephone provider that shows the phone number (and sometimes the caller's name) of incoming calls.

The phone saves the information for the last 50 received calls to the CID list.

The NEW icon marks any calls received since the last time you checked the list.

To open the CID list press CID.

Highlight a number and press MENU/SELECT.

The options:
Delete an entry - this will erase the number from the list.
Store Into PB - this will add the number to the phonebook.
Delete All - will erase all numbers from the list.

To store numbers in memory do the following
(Make sure the phone is in standby and not in TALK mode)
2.) Press the memory button on the handset or base.
3.) Press the desired memory location button (0 through 9 number keys) or
use the CID-VOL (- or + ) buttons on the handset or CID/rev or CID/skip)
buttons on the base to scroll to desired memory location. If the memory
location is occupied, the stored name and number displays. If the
memory location is unoccupied, EMPTY shows in the display.
4.) Press the memory button again. The display shows ENTER NAME.
5.) Use the base or cordless handset touch-tone pad to enter a name (up to
15 characters).
6.) Press the memory button again to save your selection. The display
shows ENTER TEL NUMBR.
7. Enter the area code followed by the
telephone number (up to 24 digits, including pauses) and press the
memory button again to save your selection. The unit beeps to confirm.
8. To enter another name and number in a different memory location,
return to step 1 and repeat the process.

Look at the phones. The one that shows both the name and number is either a 7735 or 7736 :-) They are 3 line of display as opposed to the 2 lines of the 30 and 31.

In a TA series phone system, you can adjust what is logged and either have name or number priority, you would press the CID-S button that you set up to toggle to the opposite display while the phone is ringing or you're talking. It's section 9.3 of the maintenance tool or 904 in system commands.

Since CID display to the phone comes from the Panasonic phone SYSTEM, you might try looking inside the cabinet to see if it has a caller ID card. The part ends in 93.

It also requires some programming. If you post your model number, I might have a CID card if yours is missing.

These phones use a "Shared" memory, the CID information and the Phone book information share the same memory chip. If you clean out the caller ID data you should be able to load more numbers in the phone book. Since you have an 8885 I am assuming you have TCX800 or TCX905 handset(s), to clear the CID memory, Follow these steps:

Deleting Information from the Caller ID List
1) When the phone is in standby mode, view the Caller ID
information to be deleted (see "Viewing the Caller ID
List" on page 50).
2) Press the DELETE soft key. De let e C all er ID appears.
3) Press volume up/down to choose Yes.
4) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.

To delete all the CID information follow these steps:

1) When the phone is in standby mode, press cid.
Press the DELETE soft key. De let e A ll? appears.
2) Press volume up/down to choose Y es.
3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone

Pick 2 buttons on the left side keystrip and label them CID-Indication and CID-Selection Then press PROGRAM press the button and dial 96 STORE for the first and 97 STORE for the second. When a call comes in, the Selection button will toggle between the name and the number and if yuu're looking at missed calls, the date and time of the call. When you miss a call, the Indication button will light and you press it to view the Names of missed calls.

First you have to push the PROG button on the phone (Its located by the REDIAL button.) Then you push the round SELECT button located by the on and off buttons. After you do this you simply use the number pad to enter the name in which you wish to store in your directory. If you mess up you can go back by using the volume - button.(also known as the CID button) When you have finished typing the name hit the round SELECT button. Now you are ready to enter the persons telephone number. When you have finished hit the SELECT button once more and you have finished storing it. To see the number in which you have just stored hit the DIR button, also know as the volume + button.  

This is a long shot but worht asking, have you ever defaulted the system? You should default the system before installation and programming to clear out any bad data. If the system is brand new and the memory battery never turned on previously this would not be an issue. 

Try this. Memory The handset can store up to ten 24-digit numbers with up to 15-character names in memory for quick dialing. This memory feature is in addition to the CID memory log, which stores up to 40 CID records in the handset. Storing a Name and Number in Memory 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode). 2. Press the mem button. 3. Press the desired memory location (0 through 9) or use Caller ID/vol (+ or to scroll to the desired memory location. NOTE: If the memory location is occupied, the memory location number and its contents show in the display. 4. Press the mem button again. The display shows ENTER NAME. NOTE: If you don?t want to enter the name, skip step 5. 5. Use the touch-tone pad on the handset to enter the name (up to 15 characters) and press the mem button to save. More than one letter is stored in each of the number keys. For example, to enter the name Bill Smith, press the 2 key twice for the letter B. Press the 4 key 3 times for the letter I. Press the 5 key 3 times for the letter L. Wait for one second. Press the 5 key 3 times for the second letter L. Press the 1 key to insert a space between the L and the S. Press the 7 key 4 times for the letter S; press the 6 key once for the letter M; press the 4 key 3 times for the letter I; press the 8 key for the letter T; press the 4 key twice for the letter H. 6. Press the mem button to save the name. The display shows ENTER TEL NUMBR. 7. Use the touch-tone pad to enter the telephone number you want to store (up to 24 digits). 8. Press mem again to store the number. You will hear a confirmation tone. NOTE: If you make a mistake press the del/chan button to backspace and erase the wrong character(s) or number(s). Call conairphone, they will tell you over the phone how to sotre numbers. You can find their number by doing an online search. If you have an old model phone follow these steps. You have to make sure your batteries are working. Leave phone in cradle - press and release store button - dial the number - press and release store button again - press the button you want your number stored.
