Canon MultiPASS F80 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Posted on May 11, 2009

Hard drive failure required rebuild of XP Home on Dell computer. XP Home updated to SP3. Canon Multiplass F80 printer will not now work. I downloaded latest XP drivers from Canon web site, but installation does not recognize printer automatically and will not install. Manual install 'works' but printer is never online and will not print. USB connection seems to work as system announces connection but no communication with printer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled printer manually, rebooted system, but auto detection of new hardware never begins. Another Canon printer (photo printer i900D) auto detects and installed with no problem, but F80 is not detected. I also uninstalled i900D, removed cable, and then tried F80 install; no change and no detection. Please advise on how to install F80 on XP SP3.

I found that some Windows Plug and Play services were note running and were set to start 'manually'. I started those services which seemed related to Plug and Play, and the installation went without further errors.

Dell 670 work station: constant conflicts in software that works on same OS in other computers. The Mr Fix it will not start. File Hippo utility to check drivers will not work. Some programs will not

Hi re the DVD drive issue , i suggest try accessing the computer manufacturer support site and ascertain whether they be a firmware update for the specific optical drive . Updating firmware will often correct disk issues
( do not update firmware for a retail same model drive )
Lets see , Dell 670 yes many firmware updates

also of interest to you would be the Dell Crash Analysis Tool ( can run offline) found in the driver download site

Is a start anyhow

ps - due to age 2005 ( but still a rocket for home office ) , i would update BIOS firmware if not done so

I HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD DELL WITH SP 2. IS THAT THE LATEST UPGRADE?

Hi,

The latest service pake for XP is SP3, you can download and install it by performing a Microsoft Update by clicking on the the start menu and above where it says "All Programs" look for Windows/Microsoft Update.

Once SP3 is installed i recommend you perform another MS update to update SP3.

Dell Resource CD - not working in Windows XP SP3 version

You are using the Dell Resource CD provided by the manufacturer. This CD may not work with new versions of Internet Explorer that come with SP3 installations (if you reinstalled from a Windows XP CD not provided by Dell or if you did the Microsoft SP3 update).
You're only solution would be to use your "Service Tag" number underneath, for laptops (or on the back/side for Desktops), of your computer and go to http://support.dell.com to download the drivers for your specific system. If this computer doesn't have the drivers for you to be able to go to the internet, use a second computer and go to the site. Then download the individual drivers listed (the latest dated drivers will work best).
Once you've downloaded mainly the Video, Network, Audio drivers, use a USB Flash drive (sometimes called USB Key, USB pen drive, USB drive, etc) and copy what's been downloaded onto it. Do not double click on the files while they're on the second computer.
Once on the machine with Windows XP SP3, double click on each downloaded file (1 at a time) and follow the on-screen insctructions to install the driver. You should be fine afterwards. :) Let us know how it goes, and rate us. :)

Newer e/w XP Pro Dell computer looses printer connection.

Since there was no answer from your suppory folks I started looking for additional fixes on line and found the following:
From the MultiPASS F80 or F60's Download Library page, download file MP420XPUpdate.exe. Double-clicking the downloaded file, will automatically expand and run the update files to the appropriate directory on your computer's hard drive. Please note that MultiPASS Suite 4.20 must be installed prior to running the update file.
