The printer repair guy just left. I'm paraphrasing what he told me:

The Sharp MX4501N was displaying the error: H3-04. This does mean that the printer was reading an above average temperature for the fuser, for some reason.

He said that in his experience, 90% of the time, this is due to power surges/spikes and not an actual incident of the fuser over heating. A good surge protector isn't normally enough and he recommended that we look around for a cheap UPS to condition the power.

Other things that can cause a higher than average reading of the fuser can be caused by paper jams, where a piece or pieces of the paper are lodges inside, insulating the fuser and restricting air flow to the internal compnents. Printing 15-25 blank sheets through the copier can usually dislodge these. If not, call for assistance.

In order to clear the error code (H3-04) from possible powewr surges/pikes, I was given the following code: #P, *, C, 1,4 PRINT
This will remove most of the codes restricting printing to the copier, however, should the code reappear, contact customer service and arrange for a visit from the local repair person.

I hope this helps anyone else who may run in to the same problemThe error: H3-04. This does mean that the printer was reading an above average temperature for the fuser, for some reason.

Just in case anyone else has this problem with a sharp mx6201 the code to clear it is just slightly different. Press: Copy, #P, *, C, *. Then a menu will come up. Press 1, 4, Copy. Press Execute when it appears on the screen. Then, Yes. Hit CA to finish.

In case you have this problem (H3-04) due to a power spike on a Sharp MX6201. Press: Copy, #P, *, C, *. Then a menu should come up. Enter 1, 4, Copy. Press Execute when it appears on the screen, then Yes. Hit CA to finish.

Sharp AL Series Copier H3 H-3 code reset procedure

To reset the H3 condition on just about any Sharp AL series copier press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys)
Press "C" then the far left key (exposure mode) then the "C" key then the far left again.
So in other words C, far left, C, far left
Some model's use 2 other initial codes, so you may need to use one of these 2 alternate codes to get your display to go blank. The rest of the procedure is the same.
Alternate codes are: #, * , C, * or pound,star,C,star and also
#, Interupt, C, Interupt
If done correctly the display should go blank.
Now key in 14 as if you were going to make 14 copies.
Now press the print button.
The machine should reset and the code should be gone.
9 times out of 10 this is a false code that pops up due to power surges or noise.
If the code comes back this means you have a heater lamp or thermal fuse (more common) failure in the fusing area and will need service.
This works on the following models:
Sharp AL1000, Sharp AL1010, Sharp AL1020, Sharp AL1041, Sharp AL1200, Sharp AL1215, Sharp AL1220, Sharp AL1250, Sharp AL1251, Sharp AL1340, Sharp AL1451, Sharp AL1520, Sharp AL1521, Sharp AL1530CS, Sharp AL1540CS, Sharp AL1551, Sharp AL1551CS, Sharp AL1631, Sharp AL1641CS, Sharp AL1651, Sharp AL1651CS, Sharp AL1655CS, Sharp AL1661, Sharp AL1661CS

H3 code in sharp ar5316

It sound like you have a thermistor that either has a buildup on it or it is not contacting the fuser roller. I would remove the fuser, disassy and clean every component. Reinstall and usually the problems go away. Let me know if you need more assistance.
