Why wont my Panasonic KX-TG5583 allow my handset #8 (KX-TGA551M) to connect to the base? I have tried everything for hours - unregister, take battery out of base and handset both, and it still tells me I have 8 handsets maximum connected and I don't. I have 8 handsets total including the one on the base.. tech support tells me that is correct but they can't tell me how to fix it. I threw the 8th one in the drawer finally. Can anyone help me? THANKS!
It has to do with the electrical load that each ringer imposes on the line. Each set has a limit on how many handsets you can register with it. If you look on the bottom of the base you will see on the identification plate a data item called Ringer Equivalence Number or REN.
In telecommunication, a ringer equivalence number (REN) is a somewhat arbitrary number which denotes the electrical load a telephone ringer has on the line.
REN is 0.1B, but says "Expandable 8" on surface?
I am not sure but what I am suggesting might work. You could try to reduce the Ringer volumee of the handsets. You have a fixed amount of electric energy comming through the wires, that must be divided among several ringers and if they are all ringing at full blast some of them may not ring at all. Can't your phone company offer more power on the line?
